ICC WTC Points Table: Sri Lanka bagged their series-clinching win against Bangladesh in the two-match test series by a massive 192 runs at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram. Led by Dhananjaya de Silva, Sri Lanka swept Bangladesh comprehensively and subsequently made significant advancements in the ICC WTC Points Table.
The Lankan Lions are now placed fourth in the ICC WTC Points Table following the massive 192-run win over Bangladesh, a few hours ago, but more of that later in the article.
Though Bangladesh managed to pull things back in control in the third innings of the second test, their first-innings deficit against Sri Lanka proved to be the turning point.
Sri Lanka had racked up a gigantic score of 531 runs in the first innings before getting bowled out. Bangladesh, in response, couldn't score more than 178 runs.
Despite having the opportunity to enforce a follow-on, Sri Lanka batted again in the third innings and added 157 runs to their 357 runs first innings lead. The visitors now had a total of 511 runs against their name to defend in the final innings of the SL vs BAN fixture.
Bangladesh fought hard in the final innings, however, the task was perhaps herculean to be chased down in the fourth innings. The hosts added 318 runs in their fight back with Mehidy Hasan Miraz being the key stakeholder with his unbeaten 81-run knock of 110 deliveries.
Despite a superb effort from the entire Bangladeshi outfit in the last innings, they fell 192 runs short of the target and thereby lost the second SL vs BAN test as well.
