In-form KL Rahul eyes a historic Record; Star batter is on the verge of becoming the first Indian batter to achieve this rare feat

KL Rahul has been the guiding light for the Indian team in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023-25 in Australia. India have been under pressure after a poor batting display in the second and third tests. Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Shubman Gill have not had good batting performances.

That's when KL Rahul has shown some maturity and batted sensibly at times. His 84-run knock in the first innings at the Gabba was one key reason that India saved the follow-on. Rahul is India's leading scorer in the ongoing series. He has scored 235 runs in three matches at an average of 47.

He has scored the most runs after Travis Head in the series. India need him to fire as they will look to retain the BGT trophy. Rahul has a big match coming up, and he is on the way to achieving something spectacular that even Sachin Tendulkar or Virat Kohli have not achieved until now.

IND vs AUS: KL Rahul on verge of surpassing Sachin Tendulkar to achieve a remarkable feat at MCG test

The Boxing Day Test between India and Australia will kick off at 5 AM on December 26 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. This win can help India retain the BGT trophy, and if they can win both games, they will qualify for the WTC final as well. But apart from that, Rahul will also be looking to achieve a massive feat.

KL Rahul has played 56 Tests for India and scored 3216 runs at an average of 34.58. He has scored 8 centuries and 17 half-centuries overall. Two of his 8 hundreds have come in the Boxing Day Test. As a result, he has the joint-most centuries by an Indian batter, along with Sachin and Ajinkya Rahane, in the Boxing Day Test matches.

There are only three Indians with multiple Boxing Day Test hundreds. Rahul scored centuries in the 2021 and 2023 Boxing Day Tests, and both came against South Africa. If he can score one more hundred in the coming IND vs AUS fourth Test, he will become the first Indian batter with three centuries at the showpiece event.

Notably, at MCG, Rahul has played one test way back in 2014, but he recorded only 3 and 1 with the bat in two innings. That was his debut test. As he will step on the field at the MCG, it will also be his 10th anniversary in international cricket. So, he has a great chance to improve his stats, achieve this feat, and also take India to a win against the Australian cricket team.
