The first match of the Border Gavaskar Trophy series is being played today at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur. Seeing the pitch, Indian captain Rohit Sharma gave Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, and Ashwin a chance in the playing 11. This morning, Australia captain Pat Cummins won the toss and decided to bat first. In response, Australia's opening batsmen, David Warner and Usman Khawaja, were both dismissed after only one run. Mohammad Siraj got the first success for the Indian team by getting David Warner out LBW on the first ball of the second over of the match. As of the writing of this article, the excellent bowling attack of the Indian team has made Australia all out for 177 runs.

Ravindra Jadeja, returning to the team after a long time of injury, forced the Australian batsman to kneel with his spin bowling. The Indian team got the first 2 wickets quickly but an 82-run partnership was formed between Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne who came to bat on the pitch. Jadeja broke the partnership of both. Jadeja took a total of 5 wickets in this match.

Ashwin is currently the bowler to take 450 Tests for the second-fastest time. By getting his maiden wicket in the Nagpur Test against Australia, 36-year-old off-spinner Ashwin accomplished this achievement. Ashwin had an average of 24.30 wickets in 88 Tests prior to the Nagpur match. R Ashwin took 3/42 in today's match in a total of 15.5 overs.
