This was India's third consecutive win of the tournament and this victory meant that the Rohit Sharma-led team became the third team after Australia and South Africa to qualify for the Super-Eight stage of the tournament.?
Ahead of the super 8, it has been confirmed that the Men in Blue will be locking horns against arch rivals Australia on 24th June at the Darren Sammy Cricket Ground of St Lucia. The confirmation for this really exciting clash has been given on the basis of Super 8?s seedings which were decided by the International Cricket Council (ICC) before the start of this year's T20 World Cup.
The Indians are a part of Group A while the Aussies are placed in Group B of the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup and since the Aussies are currently sitting at the second position of Group B, they have been pre-seeded as B2 while the Men in Blue who are the table toppers of Group A have been pre-seeded as A1. These seedings will stay the same and won't change even if the positions of the two teams change in their respective group stage points table and they will surely take on each other on 24th June.
While facing the Kangaroos in the Super 8 presents a great opportunity for the Indians to avenge their defeat in the final of last year's ODI World Cup at Ahmedabad, Australia will certainly start the game as the favorites against Rohit Sharma and his men. All-in-all, it would certainly be an edge of the seat clash between both the arch rivals.
The squads of both sides consist of some of the best Cricket players in the world and it will be interesting to witness who finishes out on top in this highly intense clash. Rohit Sharma is in charge of the Indian Cricket Team while All-Rounder Mitchell Marsh is handling the leadership duties of the Australians.
Talking about the Men in Blue's recent encounter against the United States of America, the Rohit Sharma - led team were asked to chase down a target of 111 runs to secure a win but they got off to a horrible start as they lost both skipper Rohit and Virat in the powerplay. Left arm seamer Saurabh Netravalkar dismissed both the openers before getting the important wicket of wicketkeeper batsman Rishabh Pant.
The Men in Blue were struggling at 39-3 after losing three wickets inside the first eight overs but the duo of World's number one T20 International batter Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube got involved in an important partnership of 72 runs for the fourth wicket and helped their team defeat the USA by seven wickets.
Indian seamer Arshdeep Singh was given the man of the match award for picking up a well deserved four-wicket haul as his figures read 4-9. Hardik Pandya (2-14) took two important wickets as well and supported Arshdeep in a really good way with the ball.
