IND vs AUS Match 5: Big Aussie Player doubtful for India vs Australia World Cup 2023 Match 5: The Australian squad has copped a blow ahead of their opening clash against India in Chennai on October 8. The Aussies will be without the services of seasoned all-rounder Marcus Stoinis for its game against India due to an injury.
As confirmed by the Australian coach, Andrew McDonald, Marcus Stoinis picked up a hamstring injury, last month, during Australia's tour to India for three ODIs.
The all-rounder played the opening ODI in Mohali, but since then has not come out to feature for his team. In the meantime, Australia have played a total of four ODIs (2 against India and 2 ICC World Cup 2023 warm-up game) since that injury episode.
The Australian head coach informed that Stoinis will be "touch and go" for the clash against India, which is scheduled to be held on October 8 in Chennai.
"He's got a slight hamstring complaint at this stage, so that's why he missed the practice games and he'll be touch and go for the first game against India," Australia coach?Andrew McDonald said in Chennai on Thursday while talking about Stoinis.
"We've got the main session today and then another hit out tomorrow, so he'll go through his work there and we'll see whether he's available for selection for game one but at the moment he wasn't fit and available for those practice games," added McDonald.
Elaborating on when Stoinis picked up a slight hamstring niggle, the Aussie head coach said: ?That happened after the Mohali game. He pulled up a little bit sore from that game and then further investigation obviously led to that being a slight hamstring and then he?s just rehabilitating."
IND vs AUS: Australia to field both Marcus Stoinis & Cameron Green Simultaneously
Marcus Stoinis is quite crucial for Australia's strategies in the ICC World Cup 2023. He is one of the five all-rounders picked in the side, and the team banks on him big time. He is a big-match player and has a lot of onus on his shoulders as a senior all-rounder.
Talking about the selection of all-rounders, Andrew McDonald said that Australia has plans to fit both Marcus Stoinis and Cameron Green in the same playing11.
"There's a way that we can fit them both into the one side," he said. "Over the last 18 months, we've had a pretty clear way that we want to build three ways of playing. One of those ways is definitely with all the allrounders and potentially two quicks, and you've seen that side in the past 18 months being played, so there is a real possibility that both of those players can be in the same XI and we haven't ruled that out."
