IND vs CAN: Team India to release Shubman Gill, Avesh Khan after game against Canada on June 15 in T20 World Cup 2024

IND vs CAN: Two of Team India's travelling reserves - opener Shubman Gill and pacer Avesh Khan - are set to be released from Team India's squad upon the completion of the team's USA leg of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. The two will be set free after Team India's game against Canada on June 15 in Lauderhill, Florida.

As per the report published on Cricbuzz, Avesh Khan and Shubman Gill accompanied Team India to Florida in a chartered flight from New York, following Team India's fixture against the USA. The two, however, are not likely to be with the team for the rest of the tournament, which will be held in the Caribbean.

Though they will be released from the main squad, Shubman Gill and Avesh Khan can still make it in case of any urgency due to player injury.

Shubman Gill, who was picked as a reserve opener, will only be considered after Yashasvi Jaiswal, who is in the main squad. Moreover, the team isn't going to require a lot of pacers into playing 11 during the Caribbean leg of the T20 World Cup 2024 due to the spinning nature of the surface, hence the decision to release Avesh Khan.

Meanwhile, two remaining reserves - Rinku Singh and Khaleel Ahmed - will stay and travel with Team India throughout the competition.

Team India has already qualified for the T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8s. India won three games on the bounce upfront to seal a place for themselves in the next round of the tournament. The Rohit Sharma-led side defeated Ireland, Pakistan and the USA in the first three fixtures.

The Men in Blue will now face Canada on June 19 at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground, Lauderhill, Florida before they head into the Super8s, which begins on June 19.

India is set to play three Super8 fixtures, including one against Australia on June 24 in St Lucia. The details of the other two fixtures are still awaited.
