IND vs IRE: Rohit Sharma breaks Babar Azam's Record, closes in on Virat Kohli during India vs Ireland| Most Sixes, Most Runs in T20Is, Most Wins in T20I

IND vs IRE: Indian captain Rohit Sharma's opening win at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 against Ireland at the Nassau County International Stadium in New York has set the tone for Team India's campaign in the tournament ahead. India defeated Ireland by 8 wickets, which saw Indian bowlers rattle the Irish batting lineup followed by a sublime display of Rohit Sharma's half-century.

The skipper scored 52 runs off 37 deliveries with the help of four boundaries and three sixes in the chase of 96 runs. Though it wasn't his most fluent innings, given the unpredictable conditions and two-paced surface, the innings kept Team India rolling.

Rohit Sharma copped a blow as well on his right arm post which he decided to walk off the field as a precautionary measure.

Rohit Sharma hit three sixes against Ireland and became the only cricketer to go past the figure of 600 international sixes. He has whacked 600 sixes in 427 matches. He is followed by West Indies cricketer Chris Gayle with 553 sixes in 483 innings and Pakistan's Shahid Afridi with 476 sixes in 524 matches.

Most Runs in T20Is

Rohit Sharma, who is one of the top run-getters in the T20Is, crossed the magical 4,000-run milestone with his 52-run knock against Ireland in New York. He surpassed Pakistani skipper Babar Azam in the list of most runs scored in the T20I format.

The 37-year-old cricketer is at 4026 runs in 144 T20I innings and stands tall in second place. The first rank is held by Virat Kohli with 4038 runs in just 110 innings. Babar Azam is in third place with 4023 runs in 119 matches.

1000 Runs in T20 World Cup

Rohit Sharma also became the player with more than 1000 runs scored in the T20 World Cups. The Indian batter has piled up 1015 runs in 37 innings. He is only behind the likes of Virat Kohli (1142 runs) and Sri Lanka's Mahela Jayawardene (1016 runs).

Most Wins in T20Is

Team India's win against Ireland at the Nassau County International Stadium by 8 wickets was Rohit Sharma's 42nd win as the T20I captain in just 55 games. He surpassed the likes of MS Dhoni who has 41 T20I wins in 73 matches. His overall win percentage in T20Is stands at 77.29, while MS Dhoni had a win percentage of 59.28.

Overall, Rohit Sharma is placed fourth on the list of captains with the most T20I wins. The ranking is led by Pakistan skipper Babar Azam, who has 46 wins in 81 T20I matches.
