IND vs SA: No Pujara, Rahane as India's Test Squad Announced For South Africa Test 2023: KL Rahul, Jasprit Bumrah and Shreyas Iyer are back to the test side as BCCI announced India's Test Squad for the away South Africa test series in 2024. Veteran Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara have been dropped from the test side and Young Ruturaj Gaikwad is featured in all formats. Mohammed Shami is also returning, although his participation is contingent on his fitness; the BCCI statement announcing the team stated that the fast bowler was "currently undergoing medical treatment." Shami was rested for India's most recent Test series in the West Indies in July.
BCCI wrote: " Mr Rohit Sharma and Mr Virat Kohli had requested the Board for a break from the white-ball leg of the tour. Mr Mohd. Shami is currently undergoing medical treatment and his availability is subject to fitness."
Ajinkya Rahane, who was unexpectedly called up for the World Test Championship final earlier this year and promoted to vice-captain for the West Indies Tests, did not have a spot. Shreyas Iyer has taken his position.
It's interesting to note that KL Rahul got a spot in the Test team as a wicketkeeper. Additionally, this is his first time playing for the red ball team since he was dropped during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy earlier this year. His opponent for the keeper's spot in the starting eleven will be Ishan Kishan. This implies that Rahul will play in the middle order if he chooses to play.
