India has always been a top performer in the T20 world cups so far. The team has displayed courageous performances in the majority of the editions of the tournament that've been played to date.
The team is blessed with several quality batsmen who have delivered crucial contributions with the bat to help the team get out of a hole on a number of occasions in tough circumstances.
It's time for us to have a look at the top three highest individual scores notched up by Indian batsmen in T20I World cups so far.
3. Virat Kohli (82 vs Australia - 2016 T20 world cup)
At no.3 in the list is Virat Kohli's 82-run innings vs Australia. India had to record a win in order to proceed to the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2016. Australia had set up a target of 161 for India in response to which the batsmen looked shaky right from the start.
The top order failed to get going and India was in trouble. The run rate was soaring higher with time creating havoc in the dressing room. Virat Kohli then took control of the situation and started finding the boundaries in every over to pull down the required rate.
He smashed a fine half-century and went on to take India to victory with masterful innings of 82 off just 51 balls. He was rightfully awarded the man of the match for his outstanding contribution with the bat.
2. Virat Kohli (89 vs West Indies - 2016 T20 world cup)
The second position in this list also belongs to Virat Kohli. His innings of 89 runs against West Indies in the 2016 T20 World Cup take up the second spot in this list. India was to face West Indies in the semi-final of the T20 world cup and had a perfect start batting first. West Indies however coped back into the game with quick wickets.
However, Virat Kohli didn't let the momentum fade away as he continued to attack the bowlers and find the boundaries by making brilliant use of his traditional varieties of stroke play. He notched up another fine half-century and scored a total of 89 runs to help India post a total of 192/2 in their 20 overs.
Though India lost the match as West Indies chased down the total in the last over, the match will particularly be remembered for Virat Kohli's magical performance with the bat.
1. Suresh Raina (101 vs South Africa - 2010 World Cup)
The top spot in the list belongs to India's legendary T20 batsman, Suresh Raina. India faced South Africa in a must-win the game during the 2010 World T20. After being put into bat first by the proteas India lost Murali Vijay early for a duck. Raina who came in at no.3 started playing fluent strokes right from the beginning.
He built on partnerships with other batters and maintained the flow of runs in the process. Though he never found some solid support from the rest of his teammates, he didn't let the run rate go down. He eventually went on to score a fantastic century becoming the first player to do so for his team in T20Is.
India posted a total of 186 in their 20 overs and went on to win the match by 14 runs. Suresh Raina was awarded the player of the match for his outstanding innings.
