Afghan captain Hashmatullah Shahidi won the toss and decided to bat first. Electing to bat first, the Afghan team scored 272 runs at the loss of eight wickets in the stipulated 50 overs. Captain Shahidi scored the most runs for the team; he scored 80 runs in 88 balls, while Azmatullah Omarzai scored an inning of 62 runs. From the Indian team, Jasprit Bumrah took the maximum of four wickets, Hardik Pandya took two, and Kuldeep Yadav and Shardul Thakur took one wicket each.
Indian captain Rohit Sharma made the target of 272 runs even smaller with his aggressive batting. Rohit Sharma scored 131 runs in just 84 balls with the help of 16 fours and five sixes. Because of his innings, he also got the Man of the Match award. Fellow batsman Ishan Kishan also played an inning with 47 runs. Virat Kohli stood at the crease till the end with his intelligent batting technique and led the team to victory. Kohli played an unbeaten inning of 55 runs on 56 balls.
The next match of the Indian team is now against Pakistan on October 14. This match will be played in front of a packed audience at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Gujarat.
