Indian Cricket: Why Are Players Getting Frequently Injured? Ravindra Jadeja Injury 2022 Update.
By Nikhil Patil Jul 22, 2022 4:13 AM IST
Indian Cricket has off-late seen many injuries. Ravindra Jadeja has been ruled out of the ODI series against the West Indies because he has injured his knee. If his injury recovers in time, he might be available for the last two games, or else if the case worsens, he will miss them all. This means that the Indian Cricket Vice-Captain is not available for the series. In recent times we have seen many players get injured. The frequency of injuries has increased. But why is it so? Here is a look:?
Indian Cricket Schedule is Jam Packed:
With all the word around the scheduling of international games in recent times and how tight the schedule is players are bound to get injured. Earlier a series?was played once in 2 months. But today the number of games has increased by four-folds. We have a game every 3 to 4 days. Add to that the advent of franchise cricket. Every year, our very own IPL requires a two-month window in which the teams are always on the run. ?
So, players like T Natarajan, Varun Chakravarthy, Deepak Chahar, Washington Sundar, and other injury-prone prospects find it difficult to recover in time. The franchise sport has games even on alternate days. This just defines how tight the schedule is. The games end at 12 in the night and the players get minimum to no recovery time. ?
Indian Cricket Injury List:
Here is a look at the players who have been injured in recent times:
1) T Natarajan (Injury after IPL 2022)?
2) Rahul Chahar (Announced Not Fit for selection on South Africa Tour)?
3) Deepak Chahar (Announced Unfit for Selection During IPL 2022)?
4) Washington Sundar (Injury in the middle of the IPL 2022 season)?
5) Ruturaj Gaikwad (Injured Just Before the Match in the Nets)?
6) Umesh Yadav (Hamstring Pulled During Sydney?Test Match)?
7) Navdeep Saini (Hamstring Pulled During Gabba Test Match)?
8) Ajinkya Rahane (Injured During New Zealand Tour of India 2021)?
9) Hardik Pandya (Lower Back Recovery took 2 Years)?
10) KL Rahul (Has Been Having Groin Niggle Since 2020)?
11) Rohit Sharma (Left and Right Hamstring Injuries)?
12) Suryakumar Yadav (Broken Finger During IPL 2022)?
13) Varun Chakravarthy (Injured Knee During IPL 2021, 2022)?

15) Shubman Gill (Injured Before the India Tour of South Africa 2022)?
16) Mayank Agarwal (Injured Before India Tour of England 2021)?
17) Ravichandra Ashwin (Stiff Back)?
The intention is to not exaggerate but to throw light on the dismal condition of the players. They are entertainers and their fitness needs to be taken care of. Apart from the physical pressure, the players also need to deal with mental pressure. The rotation policy of England Cricket was truly justified because many players are injured. ?
Players are picked from Small Towns of the Country:
Cricket earlier was a rich man?s sport. Only the big-town boys were picked. Bangalore, Mumbai, and Baroda were top hubs for cricket. Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Gujarat were the 3 states giving the best players. Punjab at times made a few contributions. But ever since the advent of a good scouting system we are selecting boys from the smaller towns. MSD from Ranchi, Rishabh Pant from Roorkee, Natarajan from Salem, Siraj from the chawls of Hyderabad, Navdeep Saini from Karnal, and many such players. ?
The fact is that these players do not have access to top-quality meals from an early age. Their nutrition is short of the essential nutrients that a sportsperson requires. This makes their development stage in jeopardy. And when the time comes to perform, they put stress on their muscles. So, with the development of a scouting system, the next goal of the BCCI is to get these boys to the proper nutrition and recovery facilities. And slowly but steadily the BCCI management will get there. ?
