Indian pacer Mohammad Shami takes his first jab of Covid-19 vaccine.

Indian senior pacer Mohammad Shami on Thursday took his first jab of Covid-19 vaccine in Mumbai while he was under quarantine for the upcoming England tour. The Indian contingent is currently undergoing their two weeks hard quarantine before heading out to the UK for as many as six test games.

Mohammad Shami is also named in India?s test squad that will travel to the UK.

Apart from him, Ravi Shastri, who was celebrating his 59th birthday yesterday was amongst the first ones from the India team to take the vaccine shot. Shastri was inoculated in the first week of March.

Several other members of the Indian outfit are also vaccinated with the first doses. The likes of skipper Virat Kohli, vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane, Cheteshwar Pujara, Umesh Yadav, Ishant Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah and Rishabh Pant took their shot before going into the quarantine in Mumbai.

The BCCI had earlier asked all the Indian players to take the Covishield vaccine, which is a version of Oxford AstraZeneca. The vaccine will be available in England so that the players can get their second doses there.

?Covishield is a version of the Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine available in England. This will help the BCCI to administer the second dose to the players in England,? a BCCI source had said.

India will take on New Zealand in the summit clash ICC World Test Championship on June 18. Thereafter the Indian contingent will have a month-long break before locking horns against England in a five games test series.
