India’s Cricket Governing Body, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday announced the Indian Women’s Cricket Team’s squad for the upcoming ICC’s T20 World Cup 2024. Experienced Campaigner Harmanpreet Kaur will handle the team’s leadership duties while opening batter Smriti Mandhana will be the vice-captain.

The Women in Blue, who lost in the semi-finals of the previous edition against Australia are part of Group A alongside fierce rivals Australia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and New Zealand.

The Harmanpreet Kaur-led team will open their 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup campaign against New Zealand on the 4th of October at Dubai’s International Cricket Stadium while the highly anticipated India vs Pakistan clash will be played on the 6th of October at the same venue.

The Indian Women’s Cricket Team has made just a single change from their recent Asia Cup 2024 campaign with Yastika Bhatia replacing Uma Chetry in the 15-member squad. Uma instead is a party of the travelling reserves alongside Saima Thakor and Tanuja Kanwer.

Alongside Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur, the likes of Jemimah Rodrigues, Shafali Verma, and Dayalan Hemalatha will form the batting unit of the team while Sajana Sajeevan is a part of the team as well.

Deepti Sharma will lead the spin bowling unit and she will be supported by left-arm orthodox spinner Radha Yadav and leggie Asha Sobhana, who will be playing her first ever World Cup at the age of 33.

The pace bowling unit of the Women in Blue will continue to be led by Renuka Thakur, Arundhati Reddy, and Pooja Vastrakar.

Harmanpreet Kaur and her girls faced a heartbreaking defeat by eight wickets against hosts Sri Lanka in the recently concluded Women’s Asia Cup 2024, preventing the Indians from lifting their record eighth Asian Cup trophy.

The two teams will face each other again in the group stage of the upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 and India will be looking to take revenge for their defeat in the Asia Cup Final.

India’s squad for the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024: Shafali Verma, Harmanpreet Kaur (Captain), Jemimah Rodrigues, Smriti Mandhana (Vice-Captain), Deepti Sharma, Yastika Bhatia (WK), Richa Ghosh (WK), Arundhati Reddy, Pooja Vastrakar, Renuka Singh Thakur, Asha Sobhana, Dayalan Hemalatha, Radhav Yadav, Sajana Sajeevan and Shreyanka Patil*.
