IPL 2021: Suresh Raina confirms that he will be a part of competitive cricket as well as the Indian T20 League in the next season. The southpaw is out of the game for two years and speaking to Dainik Jagran Raina confirms participation in IPL 2021 and Competitive cricket in 2021.
After two long years gap, Raina will be seen on the field. He also told he will be playing the domestic circuit before the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. Raina will be leading his home side Uttar Pradesh in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2020/21.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is yet to release the schedule for the domestic circuit cricket 2020/21. But it is confirmed that it will be conducted before the IPL.
Suresh Raina's two years break:
Raina has led his home team, Uttar Pradesh to the title once in SMAT 2015/16. Raina will step into the field after two years hiatus. He will be hoping to win the title on his comeback.
Previously Raina played in IPL 2019 final, since then he is out of the game. He traveled with his IPL franchise to UAE but soon pulled back from the League and returned back home. His news of pulling back came soon after 13 members from the CSK camp tested positive for?COVID.
Subsequently, spinner Harbhajan Singh also pulled out of the season as CSK faced a major setback.
The Chennai franchise had removed their names from the website and it is yet to be known whether they will be part of the squad in 2021 or not.
When will IPL 2021 and Domestic Cricket take place?
Sourav Ganguly led BCCI is keen on conducting the domestic circuits before the IPL 2021 Auctions. January and February are chosen as a suitable time for the domestic circuits as the franchise will also scout the talents for the Auctions.
However, if BCCI plans to conduct the Ranji Trophy at the same time, then it might go till March. The fourteenth edition of the Indian Premier League will be conducted from April to May and the Auctions will be held in between.
The final decision will be taken after the Annual General Meeting (AGM) which is scheduled for 24th December.
