IPL 2022 Teams/Franchises and their Captains:
A few Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises have their well-settled skippers in place, while a few will be in the skipper hunt in the upcoming mega auction.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) - Mahendra Singh Dhoni is going to be Chennai?s skipper for the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League. Despite uncertainty over MS Dhoni?s form, CSK will keep the cricketer as the leader of the group owing to his sharp reader mind and canny abilities. If somehow, Dhoni plans to step down from the captaincy, midway through the tournament, premier all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja will replace him as the skipper.
Mumbai Indians (MI): Rohit Sharma will be the captain of Mumbai Indians (MI) in the IPL 2021 if untimely injuries don?t give a super unpleasant surprise to the cricketer. Sharma is fit and a strong leader who can provide his services for around four more years.
Delhi Capitals (DC): Flamboyant Rishabh Pant will remain as the skipper of Delhi Capitals (DC) in the IPL 2022. DC replaced Shreyas Iyer with wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant and the latter fetched fruitful results for the team in the IPL 2021.
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH): The 2016 IPL champion side, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) retained Kiwi skipper Kane Williamson, who is apparently going to be the leader of the franchise in the fifteenth edition of the IPL.
Rajasthan Royals (RR): Young wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson was given the charge of the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2021, but the season didn?t go well as far as his captaincy was concerned. However, experts believe that Samson will improve as the captain and make amends for his mistakes in IPL 2022. RR has retained Samson for INR 14 Crores and he will be the leader of the pack.
Punjab Kings (PBKS): The Mohali based IPL team wanted to retain KL Rahul as their skipper, however, the cricketer opted to move out of the franchise and explore new opportunities. As a result, PBKS will have to appoint a new skipper for the side. Coach Anil Kumble confirmed that Mayank Agarwal, who has been retained for INR 12 Crores, to lead the side in the IPL 2022.
Lucknow SuperGiants: KL Rahul is roped in by Lucknow SuperGiants for INR 17 Crores and the cricketer is also appointed skipper of the team, which now include Marcus Stoinis and Ravi Bishnoi.
Ahmedabad: The Gujarat based new IPL franchise, to everyone?s surprise, handed over the captaincy roles to Hardik Pandya. The Baroda all-rounder bagged a contract of INR 15 Crores from Ahmedabad based team.
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB): Virat Kohli is no longer the captain of the Royal Challengers Bangalore, as he voluntarily stepped down from the leadership to manage his workload. As per the reports, Glenn Maxwell has come up as a strong candidate to take up the charge. While a few reports indicated that the franchise will target Jason Holder in IPL 2022 mega auction and will appoint him leader.
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR): Englishmen Eoin Morgan was the skipper of two times IPL champion, KKR, however, owing to his poor performance, the franchise opted to release him ahead of the mega auction. As of now, there is no clue who will be Morgan?s successor in the team. Some reports came up, recently, indicating Shreyas Iyer?s name as KKR?s primary target in IPL 2022 Mega Auction.
