IPL 2022, MI VS PBKS, Punjab Kings Batting Innings:
The toss was won by Mumbai Indians and as expected Rohit Sharma opted to bowl.
The Mumbai Indians did not get the ideal start that they had expected. Mayank Agarwal was feeling himself and was bashing the bowlers left and right. He was on song. Mayank also gave a glimpse of his glorious cover drives. In the mandatory powerplay, the duo of Shikhar Dhawan and Mayank Agarwal belted 65 runs.
The first wicket fell on 97. Mayank Agarwal was dismissed on 52 by Murugan Ashwin. But Shikhar Dhawan held his ground. Jonny Bairstow also walked in and hit a few good shots. Jaydev Unadkat was the one who sent him back. Liam Livingstone was sent to the pavilion by Jasprit Bumrah. It was an unplayable jaffa that got rid of Liam. The next to walk in was Jitesh Sharma. Jitesh is one of those players who have been around for a long time and have always wanted a chance. Jitesh played an amazing knock of 30 of 15 balls. Shikhar Dhawan all this while was anchoring the innings.
Odean Smith, Shahrukh Khan, and Jitesh Sharma all contributed bits and pieces to take the Punjab Kings to a hefty 198-5 after 20 overs. The brief scores are as follows:
Brief Scores:
- Shikhar Dhawan: 70 of 50 balls.
- Mayank Agarwal: 52 of 32 balls.
- Basil Thampi: 2/47.
IPL 2022, MI VS PBKS, Mumbai Batting Innings (Run-Chase):
The Mumbai team faltered at the beginning of their chase itself. It was obvious that they had to go all-guns-blazing from ball 1 but that cost them a few wickets. Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma, both were out cheaply. Rohit did try to attack Kagiso Rabada and Vaibhav Arora but he couldn?t trouble the scorers much. He walked back when the scoreboard said 31-1. He was followed by Ishan Kishan who went back leaving the team reeling at 32-2. Then came the crucial partnership between Dewald Brevis and Tilak Varma. The highlight of this inning of Dewald was the over of Rahul Chahar. Dewald smashed Chahar for one 4 and 4 consecutive 6s. This got the Mumbai team going. Mumbai scored 42 runs in the powerplay.
Dewald Brevis was attacking and attacking! He was well-supported by Tilak Varma who played his fair share of glorious strikes. They bought the team into a formidable situation before going back to the pavilion. When Brevis went back the scorecard read 116-3. Surya walked in next. But a miscommunication between him and Tilak lead to Tilak getting run out. Moving ahead Polly was the next to walk in. Surya was batting on another level. He carried the story ahead from Dewald and Tilak. But Pollard wasn?t in the best of touches. Pollard too was run-out, out solely because of him running the first run very slow.
Mumbai was now at 152-5. But Surya could score only 20 odd more runs before falling. This led to the Mumbai Indians? collapse. The team ended with 186-8 off their 20 overs. Here is a look at the brief scores:
Brief Scores:
- Dewald Brevis: 49 runs of 25 balls.
- Suryakumar Yadav: 43 runs of 30 balls.
- Odean Smith: 4/30.
