The fans of the IPL 2022 witnessed the two new teams in the IPL 2022 take on each other on the 10th of May. The Gujarat Titans had locked horns with the Lucknow Super Giants. Both these teams are new to the league and are table toppers. The clash was also between the two Pandya brothers. The Gujarat Titans, however, convincingly won the game by a huge margin of 62 runs.
The star of the evening was the bowlers of the team from Ahmedabad. Here is an in-depth look:
Shubman Gill Anchored the Gujarat Batting:
After asking them to bat first, the Lucknow Super Giants got an ideal start. They quickly got rid of Wriddhiman Saha and Matthew Wade. There was a tactical change in the Gujarat team in which they had dropped their marquee pacer Lockie Ferguson and had replaced him with Matthew Wade. Sai Sudarshan was also dropped to bring in the spinner Sai Kishore. Shubman Gill, however, held his ground. The young man was playing at just over run-a-ball but had got his eye in. Hardik Pandya was also dismissed while playing a loose shot!
Gujarat was at 51-3 and David Miller walked in. The pitch was certainly difficult to bat on as claimed by Shubman. David and Shubhman moved the ball around and took the innings deep to the 15th over. Gujarat just reached the 100-mark then. David Miller played a splendid cover drive for six over covers but the next ball saw him perish. Rahul Tewatia came in next and took the Gujarat team to a respectable 144-4.
Yash Dayal, Sai Kishore, and Rashid Khan toppled LSG:
The LSG batting line-up never looked settled. This team relies on all-rounders to maintain a perfect balance but at times such a collapse is its repercussion. The Gujarat Titans had entered the field with new energy to dominate. They wanted to defend their low score. The collapse began with the dismissal of Quinton De Kock who handed out a catch to Sai Kishore. The next to walk back was Rahul who nicked Shami to the keeper. Krunal Pandya, Karan Sharma, Aayush Badoni, and Deepak Hooda all of them got starts but couldn?t capitalize. Hooda in fact was running out of partners as he held the other end to score a formidable 27.
After the pace spell was over, it was time for Rashid Khan and Sai Kishore to land the knockout punches. They dismissed the middle-order and lower middle-order. Marcus Stoinis got involved in an unfortunate run-out. The LSG innings got wrapped up for 82. The man of the match award was handed over to Shubhman Gill for his stupendous innings in such a crunch situation.

The major shift in the points table after the clash of the table toppers in that the Gujarat Titans have moved from position 2 to position 1 after a thumping defeat of the Lucknow Super Giants. This makes Gujarat the first team to qualify for the playoffs. The Gujarat team is now formidably placed at the top with 18 points in hand. Lucknow Super Giants have also almost qualified but the number 16 cannot assure qualification and hence one more victory will be required to seal the deal.
IPL 2022 Orange Cap List:
The major change in the orange cap list is that Shubman Gill has now entered the leaderboard. The young man from Fazilka is now placed at number 4. After yesterday?s clash, Hardik Pandya has also moved one step ahead. So is the case with Deepak Hooda. Shubman scored an amazing 63-run inning of 49 balls and hence has moved up.
