IPL 2022 Points Table, Orange Cap, Purple Cap: Vintage Mahendra Singh Dhoni unleashed himself as he finishes the game off and take his team home in the El Clasico of the Indian Premier League (IPL) last night. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) defeated Mumbai Indians (MI) by three wickets in the last ball thriller at the DY Patil Sports Academy and brought up its second win of the season.
CSK pacer Mukesh Chaudhary gave a breathtaking start to CSK after skipper Ravindra Jadeja opted to field first. Chaudhary scalped two big fishes in Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan in his dramatic first over and brought CSK right on the top.
The sensational bowling efforts from CSK helped them restrict Mumbai Indians to a below-par total of 151 runs in 20 overs. Young batter Tilak Verma scored an unbeaten half-century and rescued Mumbai from a shameful debacle against the arch-rivals.
Mumbai Indians (MI) opened beautifully with the ball and scalped crucial early wickets. Opener Ruturaj Gaikwad and Mitchell Santner were sent back to the dugout soon in the powerplay.
Rohit Sharma?s bowling unit was too good to bring Mumbai back to the game with timely wickets. Despite Ambati Rayudu and Robin Uthappa scoring crucial 30s and 40s, Mumbai somehow found a way to remain in the race.
Following a couple of little cameos from players, the match came down to 48 runs in 18 deliveries with MS Dhoni and Dwaine Pretorius at the crease. A couple of overs later the equation was brought down to just 17 runs in the final over.
MS Dhoni took the majority of the strike in the final over and took his side home with a last-ball four owing to his sensational striking prowesses that are second to none in the tournament, even after three years of international retirement.
Chennai sealed the match by three wickets along with two match points. On the other side, Mumbai Indians remained on the losing side once again. This was Mumbai?s straight seventh loss of the season and experts reckon that they are virtually knocked out of the tournament.

With the defeat, Mumbai acquired an unenviable record of losing seven successive matches at the start of the Indian Premier League. The franchise is yet to open its account in the tournament. From now onwards, Mumbai will have to win all of their remaining matches and will depend on other teams? results as well to remain united in the playoff race.
CSK, though, couldn?t produce a disturbance in the points table, but they have doubled their points. With two wins, CSK are now standing in a penultimate position with four rating points.

IPL 2022 Orange Cap:
Mumbai Indians young batter Tilak Verma scored an unbeaten half-century and took a leap to enter the top ten orange cap holders. Verma?s consistent performance has put him in the sixth position right above his teammate Suryakumar Yadav, who is in seventh place.
Robin Uthappa?s crucial 30 run knock helped him reach the ninth place in the orange cap race.
Jos Buttler remains the leader of the race followed by KL Rahul, Faf du Plessis and Hardik Pandya respectively.
IPL 2022 Purple Cap:
No substantial gains for Mumbai Indians? bowlers in the purple cap race. The bowling woes continue for the five-times champions as none of their bowler's features in the top ten rankings.
Spinner Murugan Ashwin is their top-rated bowler with six wickets, however, he was benched for the game against CSK to make a way for young debutant Hrithik Shokeen.
CSK?s Dwayne Bravo scalped two wickets and strengthened his third place in the purple cap race.
Meanwhile, Yuzvendra Chahal firmly holds his purple cap with 17 wickets followed by Kuldeep Yadav and T Natarajan.
