There is no denial of the fact that the Indian Premier League (IPL) has grown leaps and bound with each passing year. There were several challenges in the path, however, the BCCI?s determination to successfully conduct the IPL has been paramount and the results of which are ahead of us.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) is not only the biggest cricket league in the world, but it has now started to compete with other sports in the global sports arena. Knowing the fact that 22 global powerful companies and businesses were under a roof to own the reins of the new IPL Franchise, which included the likes of Football giant Manchester United owners and the CVC Capitals that owns Formula One, shows how the IPL has bloomed over the years and how its popularity is touching the sky.

When will the IPL 2022 mega auction take place?

As per the IPL Governing Council member, IPL 2022 Mega Auction will be held in the second week of February 2022. The auction timing will be 3:30 PM IST onwards in Bengaluru for 2 days.

IPL 2022 Retention Rules:

As far as retention rules are concerned, each of the eight existing IPL franchises can retain four players including a maximum of three Indian cricketers and not more than two overseas cricketers. The Indian premier league (IPL) 2022 auction is likely to be held early in 2022. The retention process will begin from November 1 while the deadline to submit the retained players list is 30th November. Moreover, the two new IPL Franchise will continue to pick their three best players after eight franchise submits their retained players list.

Update: BCCI shared the final list of the retained players on 30 November, 5 PM.

IPL 2022 Retained Players for MI, CSK, RCB, KKR, PBKS, RR, SRH, DC:

Mumbai Indians (MI) Top 4 Retained Players:

Rohit Sharma
Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma (INR 16 Crore): Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper Rohit Sharma will earn the first retention card of the five times IPL champions. Sharma has been the central driving force that took MI to its five titles in eight years. Though he is not someone who has constantly scored 500-600 runs in each IPL season, but surely he is a big match player who knows how to come forward to help his side win the title.

Jasprit Bumrah (INR 12 Crore): The Indian pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah will surely be the second choice retention for Mumbai. Bumrah has been sensational for MI and has been their best bowler over these years. He is the one who picks early wickets and is the one who is looked up to in death overs. The pacer?s presence is enormous to the team and MI can?t afford to lose a gem like him.

Suryakumar Yadav (INR 8 Crore): Amidst the crunch competition between wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav for the number three retention choice, the Mumbai Indians franchise has zeroed onto the latter one. Yadav has been retained by Mumbai Indians for INR 8 Crores ahead of the IPL 2022 Mega Auction.

Kieron Pollard (INR 6 Crore): The only overseas player Mumbai Indians would love to have in the team?s retention bucket will be Kieron Pollard. The Trinidadian all-rounder is the one who loves to keep Mumbai jerseys on and has given splendid performances in the past for the team.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) Top 4 Retained Players:

MS Dhoni
MS Dhoni

Ravindra Jadeja (INR 16 Crore): The Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja will be a key player for CSK going forward in the IPL without the services of other senior cricketers. Moreover, Jadeja has done immensely well for CSK to provide a brisk ending to the innings and has proved a potent weapon with the ball as well.

MS Dhoni (INR 12 Crore): For one more year, fans will witness MS Dhoni flying in CSK colours as he is almost certain to get retained ahead of the IPL 2022 Mega Auctions. The CSK skipper has done well to keep things under his control over the years and will be looking to do something of a similar sort in the coming few years as well.

Moeen Ali (8 Crore): The fourth player on the list is English all-rounder Moeen Ali. The southpaw could be called one of the most important pillars for CSK's success in the IPL 2021. He certainly bolstered the CSK squad with his inclusion. He was given the licence to play freely and go after the bowlers and take his chances whenever needed and he was quite successful in that. More often than not, he delivered and did commendable work.

Ruturaj Gaikwad (INR 6 Crore): Chennai Super Kings (CSK) rode at the back of opener Ruturaj Gaikwad to lift their fourth IPL title recently. Although there were several other contributors in the team, CSK absolutely loved to have Gaikwad amongst runs which give them hope for a future star in making. The 24-years old Maharashtra Cricketer is certain to be retained owing to his consistent performance throughout the IPL 2021.

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) Top 4 Retained Players:

Glenn Maxwell
Glenn Maxwell

Virat Kohli (INR 15 Crores): Indian current skipper and former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper Virat Kohli is still on RCB?s priority list, in spite of him taking a step back from the captaincy. Kohli is a legend of modern cricket. The flamboyant cricketer has played several memorable knocks for RCB and will continue to do so with much more liberty in the coming years. Kohli will be the first retention RCB will opt for ahead of the IPL 2022 Mega Auction.

Glenn Maxwell (INR 11 Crores): Star Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell was added to the RCB squad in IPL 2021 after he was dropped by Punjab Kings owing to his poor form. RCB showed faith in the seasoned campaigner from Down Under and in return, Maxwell performed outrageously well when the team was in deep trouble. The all-rounder played several match-saving innings for RCB which strengthened his case for retention.

Mohammad Siraj (INR 7 Crores): Young Indian pacer Mohammad Siraj is another guy who will be on RCB?s priority list going for the IPL 2022 auctions. Siraj has played confident cricket since IPL 2020 and has been Virat Kohli?s go-to bowler in tricky situations. He remained extremely economical in the recent IPL and picked up 11 wickets for RCB.

Delhi Capitals (DC) Top 4 Retained Players:

Rishabh Pant
Rishabh Pant

Rishabh Pant (INR 16 Crores): Delhi played a gamble to give the captaincy roles to young Rishabh Pant after Shreyas Iyer?s injury and the southpaw has delivered exceptionally. Pant was pretty accurate with his tricks from behind the stumps, while there were a few judgemental errors that are acceptable for a young skipper. DC would love to keep going ahead with Rishabh as the skipper of the side and thus he will be the first retention of the team.

Axar Patel (INR 9 Crores): Following a stiff competition between Shikhar Dhawan and Axar Patel, Delhi Capitals (DC) seemed to have zeroed down on the latter. Axar Patel has presented himself in front as a better and capable all-rounder. The spinner has scalped 34 wickets in his last 41 IPL matches. Moreover, he remained economical, in fact, most economical (6.73) amongst DC bowlers.

Prithvi Shaw (INR 7.5 Crores): Delhi would love to have the services of pocked sized rocket Prithvi Shaw for a few more years. The Mumbai cricketer was destructive up the order and played a crucial role in setting up a strong foundation for Delhi in powerplays. Shaw amassed 479 runs, most of which came in the first six overs, from 15 IPL 2021 games which include four half-centuries.

Anrich Nortje (INR 6.5 Crores): Quite surprisingly, Delhi Capitals (DC) has opted to go with South African gun pacer Anrich Nortje leave the likes of Kagiso Rabada to the auction. The franchise surely would have its own opinions but one that can be seen clearly could be Nortje's consistency over the years and his sheer pace. The speedster was quite sensational during the IPL 2021. He deceived the batsman with his raw pace and scalped early wickets for Delhi.

Punjab Kings (PBKS) Top 4 Retained Players:

Mayank Agarawal
Mayank Agarawal

Mayank Agarwal (INR 12 Crores): Star opening batsman Mayank Agarwal has been retained by Punjab Kings (PBKS) ahead of the IPL 2022 Mega Auction for INR 14 Crores. Earlier the franchise wanted to go to the auction with a full purse, however, there was a twist in the decision. Agarwal will provide his services for three more years to come.

Arshdeep Singh (INR 4 Crores): Local Punjabi boy Arshdeep Singh is also retained by the Mohali-based IPL franchise. The officials opted to retain the Indian uncapped pacer for INR 4 Crores. Singh was quite impressive with his bowling in the last season of the IPL and the franchise wants to groom him for the future.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) Top 4 Retained Players:

Sunil Narine
Sunil Narine

Andre Russell (INR 12 Crore): The Knight Riders are convinced to retain proven all-rounder Andre Russell for the coming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The Caribbean all-rounder endured an average last season of the IPL with the bat, though he looked comfortable with the ball. He picked up 11 wickets from 8 matches he played during IPL 2021 while managing to score just 183 runs.

Varun Chakravarthy (INR 8 Crore): One has rightly said players like Varun Chakravarthy are hard to find and KKR know that Chakravarthy is a valuable asset for the team. The two times IPL champions will surely play a retention card on Chakravarthy.

Venkatesh Iyer (INR 8 Crore): The openers did the maximum work in reviving KKR?s position in the IPL 2021, Venkatesh Iyer was the one who was given a nod by the franchise after consecutive opening failures from Sunil Narine and other batters. Iyer?s inclusion in the team did wonders in keeping KKR safe in the league. He was the standout performer for KKR and should be rewarded for his crafty skills.

Sunil Narine (INR 8 Crore): The West Indies spin all-rounder Sunil Narine has been retained by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for the coming auction. Narine has been associated with the franchise for several years now and has won many matches. The sensational stuff he produced with the ball to help KKR win IPL 2012 and 2014 are examples of his heroics.

Rajasthan Royals (RR) Top 4 Retained Players:

Vivo IPL 2021: Sanju Samson has evolved as the captain of Rajasthan Royals (RR) says, Jos Buttler

Sanju Samson (INR 14 Crore): The skipper of Rajasthan Royals (RR) had a fantastic IPL 2021, though, his side didn?t perform well. Samson was the leading run-scorer for the Royals with a little below 500 runs under his belt in 14 matches. RR management handed over captaincy reins to Sanju Samson, which didn?t go well for the franchise as Samson bluffed several times. Nevertheless, that was his captaincy debut and the cricketer will look to score many more runs for his franchise in the coming years.

Jos Buttler (INR 10 Crore): The inaugural champions of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has picked English wicketkeeper-batsman Jos Buttler as their second retention of the season. Buttler is retained for INR 10 Crores and will continue to provide his valuable services to the Royals.

Yashasvi Jaiswal (INR 4 Crore): In the form of their third and final retained player, Rajasthan opted to go with the like of young Yashasvi Jaiswal. He has been retained for INR 4 Crores as he is still uncapped. The southpaw had an average season last time, but still, the franchise wants him to be with the franchise for coming years.

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) Top 4 Retained Players:

ICC T20 World Cup 2021: Umran Malik asked to stay back in the UAE by the BCCI for T20 World Cup 2021
Rashid Khan

Kane Williamson (INR 14 Crores): The Kiwi skipper Kane Williamson is Sunrisers Hyderabad's (SRH) first choice retention for the coming season of the IPL. Williamson, though, had a poor season of the IPL, the franchise has shown interest in retaining his services. Several experts believe that the success of Kane Williamson in the recent ICC T20 World Cup 2021 prompted SRH to dwell more upon Kane's retention.

Abdul Samad (INR 4 Crore): Quite surprisingly, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have picked up young batsman Abdul Samad as their second retention. The cricketer is highly equipped to hit big sixes and can easily score runs at the death overs. A few scanty glimpses of his flamboyance could be seen in the IPL 2021.

Umran Malik (INR 4 Crore): Kashmir pacer Umran Malik stunned everyone with his raw pace in the last few matches of IPL 2021. Malik delivered the fastest delivery of IPL 2021, clocking 153 kmph against RCB. Though the pacer hasn't been tested much, SRH might turn a retention card on him and get his services.
