IPL 2023 auction update: According to Cricbuzz, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) may hold the upcoming IPL auction overseas, with Istanbul being the most likely venue. Regular venue Bengaluru is also an option, but there is a possibility that the board may shift the auction to Turkey this year.

BCCI has seen a lot of changes recently. While Arun Singh Dhumal was chosen as the new IPL president after Brijesh Patel, the news that made the most headlines was that Sourav Ganguly was not re-elected as the BCCI chief and was replaced by former cricketer and the 1983 World Cup winner Roger Binny. Jay Shah was one of those who retained his posts and continues as the secretary of the governing body.

BCCI likely to organize upcoming IPL mini-auction in Turkey

As per a Cricbuzz report, the BCCI is in negotiation with various franchises about the possibility of holding the auction overseas and it is likely to be held in December this year. Since the mega auction ended last year, the upcoming mini-auction will most likely be a one-day affair. Last year the purse was Rs 90 crore and this time it will be increased to Rs 95 crore.

In the form of Viacom, the IPL has a new broadcaster on its board. Through an e-auction in June this year, Star India bagged TV rights worth Rs 23,575 crore (INR). Viacom, on the other hand, acquired digital rights for the Indian subcontinent worth Rs 23,758 crore (INR). Viacom and Times Internet Ltd shared the rights to the rest of the world for a combined figure of Rs 1,057 crore.

The BCCI can also host a workshop, and the entire trip to Turkey may take only three or four days. While some franchises have reported talks about Istanbul, the BCCI administration has not responded to Cricbuzz's queries.

By November 15, the franchises will have to inform the BCCI about the players they want to release. IPL 2023 is expected to start in the third week of March and run till the end of May or the beginning of June.
