The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 is over and we still can?t get over the terrific final we witnessed. Chennai Super Kings were engaged in a nail-biting game with Gujarat Titans that went down the wire and had almost everyone on the ground on their feet. The MS Dhoni-led side was crowned as the champions of the IPL 2023 after they thumped Gujarat by 5 wickets in the final of the 16th edition at the Narendra Modi International Stadium in Ahmedabad.
This was their fifth title victory in the league as they joined Mumbai Indians as the joint-highest title holders in the league. Chennai Super Kings didn?t have a great start to the game as they were poor with the ball and failed to put pressure on the opposition. Their bowlers were taken to the cleaners as first Shubman Gill (39) and Wriddhiman Saha (54) stitched 67 runs for the opening partnership. Before Sai Sudharsan played his best innings in the league.
The left-hander played an exceptional innings of 96 runs before skipper Hardik Pandya proved the finishing touches to take his team?s total to 214 runs. It?s fair to say that Chennai Super Kings were sloppy in the field as they missed quite a few chances. At the end of the first innings, the odds were against them. Rain again played a spoilsport and the target was adjusted to 170 runs in 15 overs.
CSK openers Ruturaj Gaikwad (26) and Devon Conway (47) came out all guns blazing and gave their team a blistering start. Shivam Dube struck some lusty blows in the middle along with Ambati Rayudu (19) and Ajinkya Rahane (27) to keep their side in the hunt.
But Mohit Sharma with his brilliant bowling brought GT back in the game. With 13 runs needed off the last, the game went down the wire and Ravindra Jadeja smashed ten runs off the last balls to win the game for his side and hand the team their 5th title.
