IPL 2024: The Chennai Super Kings, last season's champions and the IPL's joint most successful team along with the Mumbai Indians, will head to the 2024 auction with a purse of 31.4 crores. The IPL 2024 auction will take place on December 19 in Dubai, and this is also the first time that the auction is going to be held outside India. The Yellow Army has retained the strong core of their team that helped them win the title in the previous season.
Ambati Rayudu decided to retire from the IPL after assisting CSK in winning their fifth IPL title; hence, he was released, freeing up 6 crore rupees in CSK's auction budget. Ben Stokes was let go by the CSK management since the England Test Captain declared himself unavailable for the 17th season of the IPL due to knee surgery and wants to fully heal from it before England's 5-match test series against India in January 2024. 16.25 crore rupees were freed up from the England Test captain?s release. With the kind of budget the Men in Yellow have, they have an opportunity to add even more firepower to their squad ahead of the 17th season of the IPL.

Players released by CSK
Ambati Rayudu, Ben Stokes, Dwaine Pretorius, Akash Singh, Kyle Jamieson, K Bhagath Varma, Subhranshu Senapati and Sisanda Magala
The batting lineup of the Super Kings is quite well settled and will be identical to the 2023 one. Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway will be the openers, while the trio of Moeen Ali, Ajinkya Rahane, and Shivam Dube will play a crucial role in the middle order, just like in the previous season. MSD and Ravindra Jadeja will play the roles of the finishers.
Ravindra Jadeja, Moeen Ali, and Maheesh Theekshana have been excellent with the ball for the Yellow Army, and the three of them will once again be the cornerstones of CSK's spin bowling. Jadeja and Ali are also expected to chip in with some valuable contributions with the bat in IPL 2024 for CSK.
CSK's seamers are inexperienced when it comes to fast bowling. Their inexperience was evident last season, when the Gujarat Titans scored 214 runs in the final. Though CSK won the final and lifted their fifth IPL trophy, their quick bowling team might benefit from additional experience. CSK's Indian fast bowlers include Mukesh Choudhary, Deepak Chahar, Tushar Deshpande, Rajvardhan Hangargekar, and Simarjeet Singh, while Matheesha Pathirana is the team's lone foreign seamer.
After the retirement of Ambati Rayudu from the IPL, Chennai will need to find a suitable successor in the forthcoming auction. Rayudu was key to CSK's IPL triumphs in 2018, 2021, and 2023, and the Yellow Army will undoubtedly miss him next season.
CSK's large auction purse will allow them to go all in on fast bowlers like Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, and Gerald Coetzee. All four are seasoned and established bowlers, and their inclusion in the CSK squad will address the problem of inexperience in Chennai's seam bowling department. In terms of Indian fast bowlers, the Yellow Army could target Harshal Patel and Shardul Thakur, since both of them are experienced IPL performers who can also contribute with the bat. The latter is a former CSK player, so he won't have any trouble fitting in the team.
The CSK management could consider Shahrukh Khan, Karun Nair, and Manish Pandey as replacements for Ambati Rayudu in the IPL 2024 auction. Shahrukh is a local lad who is a tremendous hitter and would be an excellent addition to the Chennai Super Kings lineup. Karun Nair and Manish Pandey of Karnataka are great players who can play the anchor role to perfection and alter gears according to the demands of the situation.
