IPL 2024: Hardik Pandya has returned home ahead of the 2024 IPL. That means Junior Pandya is back with the Mumbai Indians. Hardik was added to the Mumbai Indians roster at the last minute in an all-cash trade deal worth 15 crore rupees with the Gujarat Titans. Hardik has left the Gujarat Titans, where he was the captain. So, would Hardik captain MI now that he has returned to Mumbai? Former Indian team player Akash Chopra and South African legend AB de Villiers have provided a response via signals.

Rohit Sharma was the captain of the Mumbai Indians till the end of the IPL 2023 season, and the team won five titles under his leadership. In such a case, removing Rohit Sharma as captain may not be the best option. Hardik, on the other side, has proven to be a successful captain for Gujarat. Hardik Pandya led Gujarat to victory in their debut season of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2022), and the team finished second the following season under his leadership.

Aakash Chopra stated on his YouTube channel about the captaincy of the Mumbai Indians, "Hardik Pandya was the captain of Gujarat, and he helped the team win the trophy in the first season." The Gujarat squad finished second in the second season. The return of Hardik Pandya to the Mumbai Indians in an all-cash trade deal is unusual. Is Hardik Pandya set to take over as Mumbai Indians captain? What sort of role will Rohit Sharma play?"

Ab De Villiers stated that Rohit carries a lot of weight in terms of captaincy. He leads India in international cricket, and I believe Hardik will take over the leadership position at MI to relieve some of the load on Rohit.

The Mumbai Indians have had a lot of success under Rohit Sharma's captaincy. From 2013 to 2020, Mumbai won five titles under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma. Mumbai is the tournament's joint most successful team, along with CSK. On the other hand, Hardik helped GT win their first IPL title, and the Junior Pandya will not accept a role in which he is not the captain of MI. In such a case, it will be intriguing to observe whether Hardik Pandya is truly given command of Mumbai or whether Rohit Sharma will continue as the captain.
