IPL 2024: Sourav Ganguly set to replace Ricky Ponting as Delhi Capitals head coach: Former Team India captain Sourav Ganguly is set to get an additional responsibility at the Delhi Capitals (DC) following the reports of him replacing Ricky Ponting. Ganguly, who served as BCCI President from 2019-22, is likely to be awarded the head coach's role at the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Delhi Capitals.

Ponting is reported to leave his roles and responsibilities at the Capitals following the team's consecutive poor performance in the Indian Premier League. Delhi Capitals (DC) ended their Tata IPL 2023 campaign at the penultimate position with just five victories from 14 league stage games.

As per the report in Bengali Media Outlet Sangbad Pratidin Sourav Ganguly will receive additional responsibility at Delhi Capitals as he is likely to replace Ricky Ponting as the head coach of the side. Ganguly will continue to be the Director of Cricket.

Ganguly, 50, was appointed for the role of Director of Cricket at Delhi Capitals (DC) ahead of the IPL 2023 after he completed his tenure as the BCCI President. He was replaced by Roger Binny as the President of the richest cricket board.

Ricky Ponting, whose decorated portfolio consists of an IPL title with Mumbai Indians back in 2015, joined Delhi Capitals in 2018. Under his watchful eyes, DC did well in the initial years. At the end of the league stage of IPL 2018, DC ended its IPL campaign at number eight but saw significant improvements after they climbed up in the points table to third, second and first place in the IPL 2019, 20 and 21 respectively.

However, the last two seasons have been disappointing and disheartening for the Capitals. They were eliminated from the playoffs of the last two IPL seasons.

After six eventful years with Delhi Capitals, which is yet to lift the IPL title, Ponting seems to have made up his mind to part ways with the IPL franchise. However, the IPL franchise is yet to confirm the development. It has neither confirmed nor denied the rumours of Ponting leaving the franchise.
