LSG skipper KL Rahul won the toss and asked the Capitals to bowl first as Lucknow wanted to take advantage of their home conditions. But, the home side suffered a middle order collapse as no batter except KL Rahul (39 runs in 22 balls), Ayush Badoni (55 runs in 35 balls) and Quinton De Kock (19 runs in 13 balls) made a major contribution with the bat.

Badoni’s brilliant knock helped LSG post a decent total of 167-7 on the board in 20 overs against DC. At one point in the game, the home team were struggling at 96-7 but Ayush Badoni showed retaliation with his dynamic strokes as smashed one six and five fours in his Unbeaten inning of 55 runs. He got involved in an important partnership of 73 runs and helped LSG go past the 160 runs mark.

After missing three back to back games due to a groin injury, Chinaman bowler Kuldeep Yadav took a brilliant three wicket hall and ended the game with figures of 3-20 in his four overs. Other than Kuldeep, the likes of Ishant Sharma (1-36), Khaleel Ahmed (2-41) and Mukesh Kumar (1-41) picked up some crucial wickets as well.

Delhi were asked to chase 168 runs and their opening duo of Prithvi Shaw and David Warner got involved in an opening partnership of 24 runs before seamer Yash Thakur provided the breakthrough by dismissing the latter in the fourth over. Prithvi then alongside Jake Fraser Mcgurk helped their team to score 62-1 in the first six overs but leggie Ravi Bishnoi dismissed Prithvi in the seventh over of the DC inning.

Post the dismissal of Prithvi Shaw, Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant arrived at the crease and he stitched a brilliant partnership of 77 runs for the fourth wicket which turned the game in the favor of the IPL 2020 runners-up. Jake scored 55 runs in 35 balls before Naveen – ul – Haq dismissed him in the 15th over of the DC inning. Bishnoi sent Pant back to the pavilion in the next over as he scored 41 runs in 21 balls. In the end, the duo of Shai Hope (11* runs) and Tristan Stubbs (15* runs) helped DC get over the line.
