IPL 2025 Auction: CSK CEO Viswanathan denies asking the BCCI to bring the Uncapped-player?rule?back

IPL 2025 Auction: The possible return of the ?Uncapped Player Rule? ahead of next year's IPL 2025 has been a highly discussed topic among cricket experts and fans across the globe, as the return of this rule might allow CSK?s former skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni to continue playing the IPL for a few more years.
According to some news reports, the five time IPL winners had reportedly requested the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) to bring the uncapped-player rule back, which let?s a player who has retired from international cricket for a minimum of five years get retained as an uncapped player by the IPL franchises. This rule was introduced in the inaugural edition of the cash-rich T20 league in 2008 before being removed in 2021. If this rule makes a comeback ahead of IPL 2025, then Chennai Super Kings can retain the services of the legendary MS Dhoni till IPL 2027, and getting retained as an uncapped player will mean that CSK?s salary cap will not get affected?as?well.
However, CSK?s CEO Kasi Viswanathan has denied asking the BCCI to bring the Uncapped-player rule back. He went on to say that the Indian Cricket Governing Body had let the five time IPL winners know that they themselves are planning to bring the rule back.
?I don't have any idea about asking the BCCI to bring the uncapped-player rule back. We didn't request that they bring it back. The BCCI themselves informed us and the other franchises that the Uncapped-player rule may get reintroduced. They haven't given any concrete confirmation regarding the rule making a comeback ahead of IPL 2025,? Kasi Viswanathan told Times of India?s Gaurav Gupta in?an?interview.
In accordance with the previous rules of retention, an uncapped player can get retained by an IPL franchise for a maximum price of 4 Crore Indian Rupees. In the mega auction of IPL 2022, the Yellow Army had retained MS Dhoni as a capped player for 12 Crore Indian Rupees. Dhoni helped the franchise lift the IPL trophy for the fifth time in 2023.
However, just a few days before the beginning of IPL 2024, the legendary skipper announced that he would step down as the captain of the Chennai-based franchise, and opening batter Ruturaj Gaikwad would take over the leadership duties from him. Under the leadership of Gaikwad, the Men in Yellow ended IPL 2024 in fifth place in the league phase of?the?tournament.
MSD played some really entertaining and fabulous cameos for CSK in the previous edition of the Indian Premier League and ended the tournament with an outstanding strike rate of 220.55 next to his name. The Super Kings fans will want their Thala to play one more season in the IPL before calling a day on what has proven to be a really legendary?career.
