IPL 2025: The Indian Premier League will see its 18th edition in 2025. The three-time Kolkata Knight Riders will host the title in the IPL 2025. The preparations have started, and the BCCI is likely to have a meeting with all franchises to discuss the retentions. Next year, there will be a mega auction where a team will get only 4-5 players to retain.
So there will be a lot of chopping and changing, and many big names will come under the hammer. Teams that have not performed well in the last few seasons will look to pick some good players who can do well. We might see some teams looking for new captains. In this article, we will talk about three captains who might leave their franchises ahead of the IPL 2025.
3 Captains who might leave their franchises ahead of the IPL 2025
3. Faf du Plessis (Royal Challengers Bengaluru)
Faf du Plessis joined Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2022 and led the franchise for three seasons. Under his captaincy, RCB made the playoffs twice, in 2022 and 2024. But the franchise is still searching for its maiden title. Du Plessis' three-year contract is over, and the franchise might not look to retain him as he is already 38 years old. So we might see Du Plessis leaving RCB ahead of the IPL 2025.
2. KL Rahul (Lucknow Super Giants)
Star Indian batter KL Rahul is another name that is coming out in the news who could leave his team ahead of the IPL 2025. Rahul has been with LSG for the last three seasons, but they couldn't make it to the playoffs in 2024. There was also footage where LSG owner Sanjeev Goenka was seen shouting at him on the ground. All these things have ignited rumours that Rahul might leave LSG. However, Rahul's contract with the Lucknow franchise is also over, so there is a chance that he might look to end his tie with them.
1. Rishabh Pant (Delhi Capitals)
A big name that can leave his team is Rishabh Pant. The swashbuckling batter made his IPL debut for Delhi Capitals in 2016 and has been an integral part of the team since then. He has played 111 matches and scored the most runs for the franchise. But according to a report from Dainik Jagran, the DC franchise is not happy with the captain and is thinking of releasing him. So if it happens, there will be a number of franchises that might be looking for Pant in the IPL 2025.
