Delhi Capitals: After the conclusion of the ICC Men's Champions Trophy 2025, the focus of the Cricket world is not set to shift towards IPL 2025. The upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League kicks off from the 22nd of March and the captains of nine team have already been unveiled ahead of the forthcoming season of the Mega T20 tournament.

However, one franchise is yet to announce their new captain and that franchise is none other than Delhi Capitals (DC). An announcement regarding their new skipper is likely to be made soon and right now, a highly exciting fight for the captaincy of the Delhi Capitals is going on.

Elite Wicketkeeper-batsman KL Rahul & star all-rounder Axar Patel are the two frontrunners for the leadership role of the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the forthcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Who is ahead in the race of becoming the next captain of Delhi?

Axar Patel is leading the race for becoming the next skipper of the franchise. With the conclusion of the Champions Trophy, the franchise owners are anticipated to announce the name of their new captain in the next few days.

The 2020 runners-up will hold a short training and practice camp in Delhi before moving to Visakhapatnam for their first two matches. Axar, Rahul, Kuldeep Yadav, South Africa's Tristan Stubbs, Australian players Jake Fraser McGurk and Mitchell Starc will gather in Vizag on the 17th and 18th of March.

KL Rahul set to miss the start of IPL 2025

Senior Wicketkeeper-batsman KL Rahul is slated to miss the start of IPL 2025 due to the pregnancy of his wife Athiya Shetty. They are set to become parents for the first time and Rahul's leave dates are going to depend on the likely birth date of their first child.

In his seventh season with the Capitals, 31-year-old Axar looks a more likely candidate to lead the team than Rahul. The right-handed batter will be joining the Delhi-based team for the first time. The 32-year-old has also captained Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the IPL for the last few years.

Injury concerns with KL Rahul

KL Rahul is certainly one of the best batters to have played in the IPL and he has helped LSG qualify for the IPL Playoffs on multiple occasions. His batting skills and captaincy skills are exceptional but he's susceptible to injuries.

While he helped the Lucknow-based team qualify for the knockout stages in the previous season, he faced a lot of injury related problems during the previous season and the Delhi Capitals team management will have to very careful with the fitness of the 32-year-old.
