Chennai Super Kings (CSK) put up 176 runs total to chase for LSG in 20 overs. Despite getting a rough start, the Yellow Brigade managed to pull things back under control owing to the gritty knock of all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and a late outburst from MS Dhoni.
CSK lost wickets consistently on a slightly two-paced deck against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Their openers couldn’t provide a brisk start, though Rahane scored 36 runs.
Ravindra Jadeja remained unbeaten at 57 runs in 40 deliveries as he tightly held his end. The other end saw plenty of wickets, but later in the innings it also got a glimpse of Moeen Ali’s 20-ball 30 run handy knock following which vintage MS Dhoni was on display.
Dhoni lit up the stadium with his freaking 9-ball 28-run knock to take CSK’s overall total to 176 runs in 20 overs.
176 seemed a par score at the glance of the two-paced surface, but it turned out decent to bat on in the second innings. Skipper KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock took down the chase with their long partnership in the first 15 overs itself.
Both the openers added 134 runs for the first wicket, even though de Kock looked sketchy to begin his innings. KL Rahul added 82 runs in 53 deliveries, while Quinton de Kock played a fine 54-run knock.
To cap off the game, Nicholas Pooran and Marcus Stoinis ensured that no more wickets fell and LSG reached over the rope safely with an over to spare and eight wickets in hand.
Though, there isn’t any movement in the IPL Points Table 2024, despite LSG’s win, the KL Rahul-led side has consolidated its position as it aims to storm into the top four in the upcoming fixtures.
LSG is placed in the fifth position in IPL Points Table 2024, meanwhile, CSK remains in the third slot, despite the loss.
