Jasprit Bumrah to be ruled out for Six Months: Team India's senior paceman Jasprit Bumrah has undergone surgery for his persistent back injury in New Zealand's Christchurch. As per the reports, the surgery was successful and the cricketer is doing fine. The surgery is reportedly done by Dr Rowan Schouten, a noted orthopaedic surgeon who has previously treated many cricketers.
Jasprit Bumrah, who was out of cricket action since September last year, is expected to take at most 24 weeks to recover completely from his injury. Although his participation in the upcoming Asia Cup seems dull, there are good chances that the pacer can be back in his bowling shoes during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 which will be held in India in October-November.
It's important to note that Bumrah missed the Asia Cup 2022 and T20 World Cup 2022 due to his back injury. The pacer was named in the ODI squad to face Sri Lanka in the home series in January 2023, however, was pulled back last minute due to precautionary measures.
Initially, there were rumours that the ace pacer could make his comeback in the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy 2023, however, his persistent back injury has kept him away.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is yet to release a statement on Jasprit Bumrah's surgery which is done in New Zealand.
If the reports are to be believed, Dr Schouten's name was recommended to the BCCI by the former Kiwi pacer Shane Bond, who serves as the bowling coach of IPL franchise Mumbai Indians. Shane Bond, himself, was treated in the Christchurch facility by Schouten's predecessor, Graeme Inglis.
