Jay Shah confirms resumption of Ranji Trophy 2021-22: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), on Friday, came up with delightful news for the Indian domestic cricketers as the Indian cricket board announced the resumption of the postponed Ranji Trophy matches. BCCI, earlier, due to the surge in Covid cases in India, suspended the schedule for the Ranji Trophy along with Col CK Nayudu Trophy and Senior Women?s T20 League.
However, as per recent development, Jay Shah, BCCI secretary, has informed that this year?s Ranji Trophy will be held in two phases. The first phase will include all the league stage games while the second phase will be the playoffs and all the knockouts.
?The Board has decided to conduct the Ranji Trophy this season in two phases. In the first phase, we plan to complete all matches of the league stage while the knockouts will be held in June,? Jay Shah said in a statement according to India Today.
Mr Shah termed Ranji Trophy as the country?s most prestigious cricket tournament that has helped India reach several milestones at international levels.
?Ranji Trophy is our most prestigious domestic competition, which has been providing Indian Cricket with an enviable talent pool every year. It is absolutely important that we take all necessary steps to safeguard the interest of this premier event,? he added.

Indian cricket would be spineless without Ranji Trophy: Ravi Shastri
Former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri, before the announcement of the restart of Ranji Trophy matches, asserted that Indian cricket would be spineless if domestic tournaments like Ranji Trophy are ignored by the BCCI.
Shastri who is known to call a spade a spade tweeted the same as he said that Ranji Trophy is the backbone of Indian cricket.
"The Ranji Trophy is the backbone of Indian cricket. The moment you start ignoring it our cricket will be SPINELESS!," tweeted Ravi Shastri taking a dig at the BCCI.
It must be noted that the BCCI had to cancel the Ranji Trophy, last year, due to the unprecedented rise in the covid cases. The cricket board couldn't figure out a way to conduct the domestic tournament and had to terminate it comprehensively.
With the covid situation getting better with each passing day, the BCCI is giving its everything to host the elite tournament as soon as possible.
