Key updates about India after the T20 WC! Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma to focus on WTC Champions Trophy youngsters to tour for T20Is

India cricket team is currently plying their trade in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. They have reached the Super 8 stage and are looking for one of the favourites to qualify for the semi-final and even win the final, which will be played on 29th July. 

After the T20 World Cup 2024, the India team will be touring Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe. It is also expected that a new head coach will be taking over the charge of the team. There are chances that Gautam Gambhir will be appointed as the new head coach of the team.

As per the reports in Times of India, it is learned that Gautam Gambhir has demanded to BCCI that India team should’ve specific teams for the three different formats going ahead with ICC events slated to take place in all three formats in the coming years. 

It is also learned that captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will now be focusing on the ICC World Test Championship and the ICC Champions Trophy, which will be played next year. On the other hand, youngsters will be part of the T20I setup now.

With the Men in Blue slated to play ODIs in Sri Lanka, it is learned that India will be fielding full strength squad. But on the tour to Zimbabwe, IPL performers Abhishek Sharma, Riyan Parag, and Yash Dayal will be given opportunities. 

Shubman Gill might miss a few games because he has been nursing a finger injury. On the other hand, the reports also claimed that Mayank Yadav is likely to miss out and BCCI won’t be rushing him.

– Gill carrying finger niggle.

– Gambhir highlighted the BCCI that India should’ve format-specific teams.

– A full-strength team is likely to tour Sri Lanka.
