Delhi won the toss first and opted to bat. They got a superb start with 50+ runs in the first powerplay that laid off a structure to their innings. Meg Lanning was on fire last night as she smacked Renuka Thakur for 4 boundaries in her second over. As Lanning and Shafali were dismissed by Shreyanka Patil and Asha Shobhana, in came Jamimah and Alice Capsey, and they both wreaked havoc on the RCB bowling unit.
Capsey and Jemi added around 100 runs in the next 10 overs and pushed Capitals to a solid condition. Delhi added 24 runs in the last two overs and posted a big total of 181 runs in 20 overs.
The spine of RCB's batting line-up, their skipper Smriti Mandhana dismissed in the second over at the score of 5 runs and RCB were on the backfoot. Sophie Molineux and Ellyse Perry then settled the conditions the asking rate was constantly rising which resulted in both set batters getting dismissed. However, Sophie Divine lit up the show with her 16-ball 26 but experienced Marizanne Kapp got her at deep.
After the dismissal of Divine, RCB needed 40 runs off 18 balls and Richa Ghosh took all the junctures to her bat and exploded it. Ghosh smashed every bowler, capitalized every ball, and took the match to the last over where they needed 17 off it.
Ghosh made two huge hits to reduce the equation to 2 off 1. And then there was heartbreak. Throughout the last over, Richa was having trouble staying energized and was breathing heavily. She gave it all and led RCB too close to the win but it all went in vain as it was never meant to happen.
