Womens Asia Cup 2024: The ninth edition of the Women's Asia Cup is underway in Sri Lanka. The knockout stage of the tournament has begun, and four teams have qualified for the semifinals. India and Pakistan have made it from Group A, while Sri Lanka and Bangladesh have made it from Group B. India women are defending their title. They have won most Womens Asia Cup most times in history. Here we will talk about the list of winners for Womens Asia Cup.
List of Winners for Womens Asia Cup: 2004 to 2024
2004: The first edition was played in Sri Lanka in 2004 with only two teams: India and Sri Lanka. Both teams played five matches in the tournament, and India won by 5-0 to become the champions.
2005: Pakistan made their debut in the second edition, and it became a three-team tournament and it was played in Karachi. But once again, the final was played between India and Sri Lanka. India won the final by 97 runs to win back-to-back titles.
2006: The Womens Asia Cup 2006 took place in India in December 2006. Once again, three teams took part in the title. India and Sri Lanka played their third consecutive final, and India won again by 8 wickets to lift the third title.
2008: The fourth edition of the Womens Asia Cup took place in Sri Lanka in May, and Bangladesh also joined the tournament. This was the fourth successive time India and Sri Lanka faced each other in the final. India won the final by a massive margin of 117 runs and won the title.
2012: The fifth edition of the Womens Asia Cup was different because four new teams joined the tournament, and this was the first time that it was played in T20 format in China. India made to the final again and played it against Pakistan. India defended a total of 81 runs and won their fifth title by 18 runs.
2016: The next edition of Womens Asia Cup was played after four years in Thailand. It was played with six teams in T20 format. The final was played between India and Pakistan, and India won by 17 runs to win the sixth title.
2018: The seventh edition saw for the very first time another team winning the title. This tournament took place with six teams in Malaysia. India and Bangladesh qualified for the final. But Bangladesh edged past India by three wickets on the last ball and won their maiden title. This was the first time India lost the Womens Asia Cup final.
2022: India lost the 2018 final, but in the next edition in 2022, which took place in Bangladesh, India carried on their dominance and won it. The final was played between India and Sri Lanka and India won it by 8 wickets.
