MS Dhoni to remain Chennai Super Kings captain in the IPL 2023 - Reports: Former team India skipper, Mahendra Singh Dhoni is likely to captain Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), confirmed the franchise CEO, Kasi Vishwanath, on Sunday.
The update from the franchise official came amid rumours of Dhoni quitting the captaincy and playing as a proper wicketkeeper batter in the Tata IPL 2023.
?There is no change in our stance. We never said that there will be a change,? said Kasi Vishwanathan, CSK CEO, to InsideSports while confirming that Dhoni will continue to lead the team.?
Notably, Dhoni, who has led CSK since the inception of the lucrative Indian Premier League in 2008, relinquished his role two days prior to the start of the Tata IPL 2022. The duty was eventually handed over to the premier all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who failed to live up to the expectation and lost consecutive matches in the IPL 2022.
Eventually, Jadeja stepped down from the role, or was perhaps forced to quit his duties, and then MS Dhoni was again placed at the helm to lead the franchise in the remainder of the IPL 2022.
Interestingly, towards the end of the IPL 2022, Dhoni himself confirmed that he would definitely take part in the IPL 2023 in order to bid thank you to all the fans across the country.
"Definitely,? he [Dhoni] said to the query whether he would play the IPL 2023 or not. ?It's a simple reason: it will be unfair to not play in Chennai and say thank you.?
Under MS Dhoni, CSK has won four IPL titles. Their most recent IPL victory came in the year 2021 when they made comeback following a languishing season previously.
