England vs New Zealand: The first match of the Cricket World Cup 2023 was played today at Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad. In today's first match of the ICC World Cup 2023, New Zealand and defending champion England were facing each other. This match started at 2:00 PM IST at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. In the absence of Kane Williamson, the responsibility of the New Zealand team was on the shoulders of Tom Latham, and on the other hand, England captained by Jos Buttler.
Tom Latham won the toss and invited England to bat first; in reply, Jos Buttler and company scored 282 runs in the stipulated 50 overs. For England, Joe Root scored the highest score of 77 runs, while captain Jos Buttler scored 44 runs in 42 balls with the help of two fours and two sixes.
In bowling, Matt Henry took the maximum three wickets for New Zealand. He took three wickets for 48 runs in ten overs. Glenn Phillips and Mitchell Santner took two wickets each.
Chasing the target of 283 runs, the New Zealand team got its first blow in the form of Will Young in the very second over. He was out on the ball of Sam Curran to wicketkeeper Jos Buttler in the very first inning. After his dismissal, there was a partnership of 283 runs between Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra. Conway scored 152 runs on 121 balls with the help of 19 fours and three sixes. Rachin Ravindra played a brilliant inning of 123 runs in 96 balls with the help of 11 fours and five sixes. Due to the explosive innings of both of them, New Zealand won by nine wickets in just 36.2 overs and earned two points in the points table.
