BBL Breaking: Former Australian Limited Overs captain Aaron Finch is all set to retire from the Big Bash League at the end of the current season. The 37-year-old is going to play at least three more matches for the Renegades before hanging up his boots. He announced his retirement from international cricket in February 2023.
In an interview with Channel 7, he revealed that the current season of the BBL would be his final season. ?There have been some real lows but great highs as well, and I have loved every bit of the journey,? Aaron Finch said. ?I am really proud and happy to have played with just one team (Melbourne Renegades) throughout my career. The Renegades have been a huge part of my life, and I am really grateful for everything they have done for me,? Finch added.
There are pretty high chances of Aaron Finch facing former opening partner David Warner in his final match, as the Sydney Thunder and Melbourne Renegades are all set to lock horns against each other in the final group stage match of the current BBL season.
The 37-year-old led the Melbourne Renegades to their maiden and only BBL title win in the 2018-19 season as they defeated the Melbourne Stars in the final. ?Nothing can be compared to winning the BBL, and lifting the 1st BBL Trophy with the Renegades was very special and something that I will remember for the entirety of my life,? Aaron Finch said.
Finch has appeared in 107 games for the Renegades, the highest in the history of the Melbourne Renegades. He?s also the second-highest run scorer in the history of the Big Bash, with 3311 runs next to his name. Chris Lynn is the leading run scorer in the history of the BBL with 3638 runs.
Aaron Finch will continue his commentary duties with Fox Cricket, and he might participate in the next season of the USA?s Major League Cricket as he's the skipper of the San Francisco Unicorns.
