Pakistan's name will not be written on Team India's jersey in Champions Trophy, PCB unhappy with BCCI
The 2025 edition of the Champions Trophy is set to be played from the 19th of February in Pakistan with the Shaheens taking on New Zealand in the opening encounter. The Indian Team will play all of their Champions Trophy fixtures in the city of Dubai but Pakistan will still act as the official hosts of the tournament.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had refused to send the Indian Cricket Team to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy, after which the Dubai Hybrid-Model was adopted for the 2013 Champions Trophy winners. Now, a news report has come out claiming that the name of Pakistan, hosts of the tournament will not be written on the Champions Trophy jersey of Team India.
Let us tell you that during ICC tournaments, the name of the host countries is mandatorily written on the jersey of all participating teams. West Indies & the USA were the host nations of the 2024 T20 World Cup in June of 2024.
Like all the other participating teams, the names of the West Indies and the USA were also written on the jersey of Team India. Similarly, Pakistan are the official hosts of the Champions Trophy but a news report of Geo Super claims that Pakistan's name is not going to be written on the jersey of the Men in Blue.
An official of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), while having a conversation with the news agency IANS, said that the BCCI is bringing politics into the sport of Cricket. Earlier, the BCCI had reportedly refused to send skipper Rohit Sharma to Pakistan for the opening-ceremony of Champions Trophy 2025.
Speaking to the news agency on the basis of anonymity, official of the PCB said, "They (BCCI) are trying to bring politics into our beloved sport of Cricket, which isn't good for the sport at all. They refused to send their team to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy. They do not want to send their National Team's skipper to Pakistan for the opening-ceremony. Now, multiple reports are claiming that BCCI does not want the host country's name (Pakistan) to be written on their jersey in the Champions Trophy. We are very sure that the Governing body of Cricket (ICC) will not allow this to happen and they will surely support Pakistan."
India to play their first Champions Trophy 2025 match on 20th of February
It's worth noting that Champions Trophy 2025 will kick off from the 19th of February. The Rohit Sharma-led will play their first match of the competition versus Asian-Rivals Bangladesh on the 20th of February in the city of Dubai.
