A surprising announcement from Pakistan Cricket breached the internet, with former Pakistan women’s team skipper Bismah Maroof announcing her retirement from all forms of cricket, effective immediately.
The 32-year-old Bismah Maroof has captained the T20I Pakistan women’s team since 2016 and then also replaced Sana Mir in the ODI leadership of the national women’s team.
Making her debut in 2006 when she was just a 15-year girl and over his lustrous career for as Pakistani player, she represented the nation in as many as 276 international matches.
In her long 18-year career, she played 140 T20I matches and 136 ODI matches where she scored 2893 runs in T20Is and 3369 runs in ODIs. She led the national Women’s T20I side in 62 outings and won 26 in those. Pakistan Women’s Team played 32 ODI under her leadership winning 16 out of those. She flexed the best winning percentage ever recorded as Pakistan Women’s captain in both forms.
Not only with her bat and mind, Maroof also got Pakistan’s back with the ball in her hands. She bowled as a leg spinner and picked up 80 wickets for Pakistan across the two formats.
Pakistan Skipper Bismah Maroof Announced Retirement
“I have decided to retire from the game I love the most. It has been an incredible journey, filled with challenges, victories, and unforgettable memories,” Maroof said in her statement released by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
With a post on X.com (Twitter), Bismah announced her retirement. She wrote “For 17 years, cricket has been not just a sport but a passion, a dream fulfilled, and a journey of growth beyond measure. With a mixture of emotions, I bid farewell to the incredible journey of representing Pakistan on the international stage.”
“From those early days to now retiring after playing for almost 2 decades, I collected a treasure trove of beautiful memories. To the Pakistan Cricket Board, captains, coaches, teammates, support staff, friends, family, and my dear husband, I extend my deepest gratitude.”
Cricket Pakistan also released a beautiful video on the farewell of Bismah.
