Pakistan to become No 1 ODI Team ahead of Asia Cup 2023, ICC ODI Team Ranking

ICC ODI Team Ranking: Babar Azam-led Pakistan could become the World's No 1 ODI Team in the International Cricket Council (ICC) rankings at the end of the completion of their upcoming assignment against Afghanistan. If all things go in favour of Pakistan, then it will play the Asia Cup 2023 being ICC's No 1 Ranked ODI Team.
Pakistan is set to lock horns against Afghanistan in the three-match ODI series in Sri Lanka. The One Day Internationals (ODI) series will be held between August 22 and 26 at Sri Lanka's Mahinda Rajapaksa International Stadium.
As of now, Australia has bossed the ICC ODI Team Ranking with 118 rating points. Pakistan is seated in the second spot with 116 points followed by India with 114 points.
If Pakistan manages to seal all three ODI games against Afghanistan, it will topple Australia and claim the number 1 spot in the ICC ODI Team Ranking. The 3-0 result in favour of Pakistan against Afghanistan would earn them the necessary rating points to dethrone the mighty Aussies from the top ranking.
Moreover, if Pakistan manages to clinch the Asia Cup 2023 after thrashing Afghanistan 3-0, it would continue to remain at the top spot of the ICC ODI Ranking. However, if India successfully gets crowned the Asia Cup 2023 champions, then it would replace Pakistan as the top ODI side in world cricket.
It must be noted that in the next couple of months, there will be a lot of reshuffling in the ICC ODI Team Ranking because of multiple scheduled tours and fixtures. Pakistan is slated to play against Afghanistan, and Australia is set to travel to South Africa for a long ODI series, followed by a tour to India. Subsequently, the Asia Cup 2023 will take place. Hence, there could be a lot of shake-up in the entire ICC ranking chart.
Now let's take a look at the current ICC ODI Team Rankings as of 13 August 2023.
