Following Pakistan's dismal World Cup 2023 campaign, Babar Azam announced his resignation as captain of all three forms, which dealt a severe blow to Pakistani cricket. Shan Masood was named the Test team captain shortly after, and Shaheen Shah Afridi assumed leadership of the Twenty20 team. Pakistan has not yet named a captain for the One-Day International team.
In their twelve tours to Australia, Pakistan has never emerged victorious in a Test series, and they have lost their previous fourteen five-day matches in a row in Australia. Since 1995, Pakistan has not prevailed in an Australian Test match. With newfound optimism, the Asian team is traveling to Australia for a three-match Test series that runs from December 14 to January 7.
Pakistan began their World Test Championship 2023-25 campaign with a resounding 2-0 win over Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka earlier this year. With their 100% winning track in this new WTC cycle, they are also the table topper of the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 Points table.
