Pakistan's Bowling Coach Morne Morkel RESIGNS after World Cup 2023 Exit: Decorated South African pacer, Morne Morkel has resigned from the post of Pakistan's bowling coach in the after-effects of Pakistan's awful run in the World Cup 2023. The development came a day after the World Cup 2023 league stage ended in Bengaluru.

Morkel had signed up for a six-month contract, in June, with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for the role of bowling coach, which was due to end in December 2023. Under his eyes, Pakistan took on Sri Lanka in two tests and defeated Afghanistan in an ODI series. However, Pakistan's recent two campaigns in the Asia Cup 2023 and World Cup 2023 have remained underwhelming.

Though Pakistan's failure to qualify for the World Cup 2023 semi-final is seen as a result of a complete mismatch of their plans and strategies, some experts reckon their bowling department led the team down to a large extent.

?The problem for Pakistan in this WC is that our fast bowling is struggling,? said Wasim Akram on A Sports.

Notably, Naseem Shah's injury, ahead of the World Cup 2023, made the so-called fiery pace lineup blunt. The likes of Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf, the two vital cogs of Pakistan's pace battery, were taken to cleaners more often than not. The two lacked consistency and impact throughout the showpiece event, although, they scalped 18 and 16 wickets respectively.

Meanwhile, Morne Morkel's exit from the PCB set-up is seen as the consequence of Pakistan's dismal form in the two big events held recently (Asia Cup 2023 and World Cup 2023).

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in the statement confirmed that the call on the replacement for Morne Morkel shall be taken "in the due course."

It is noteworthy that Pakistan are due to travel to Australia, next month, for a three-game test series. The first Pakistan vs Australia test will begin on December 14 in Perth.
