Reigning champions Lahore Qalandars and Quetta Gladiators are all set to lock horns against each other in the fourth game of PSL 2024. The match will be played today at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, and the match between the two teams will start at 19:30 pm IST.
The Shaheen Shah Afridi-led Qalandars suffered a defeat in their opening encounter against Islamabad United, while the Gladiators will be looking to win their second game after a comfortable victory against Babar Azam?s Peshawar Zalmi by a margin of 16 runs. The odds favour the Quetta Gladiators, but the squad of Lahore Qalandars has a formidable track record and momentum, reminiscent of champions, creating an atmosphere of uncertainty.
Shaheen Shah Afridi, who recently replaced Babar Azam as the skipper of the Pakistani Cricket Team during the tour of New Zealand, performed poorly against Islamabad United with the ball as he went wicketless in his four overs and gave away 31 runs. Zaman Khan (1-33) and Salman Fayyaz (1-23) were the only wicket takers for the Qalandars against Islamabad, as Haris Rauf (0-38), Jahandad Khan (0-39), and David Wiese (0-24) failed to get their names among the wickets. The batting unit of the Shaheen Shah Afridi-led team struggled as well, with Rassie Van Der Dussen (71 runs in 41 balls) and Sahibzada Farhan (57 runs in 36 balls) being the exceptions.
Talking about the Quetta Gladiators, the opening duo of Saud Shakeen (74 runs in 47 balls) and Jason Roy (75 runs in 48 balls) were the best performers for the Quetta based team with the bat, as the duo helped their team post a huge total of 206 runs on the board. In reply, Babar Azam (68 runs in 42 balls) and Saim Ayub (42 runs in 26 balls) showed some retaliation with their fighting knocks, but following their dismissals, no other Peshawar Zalmi batter was able to capitalize on the start given by the openers, and eventually, Peshawar fell short by 16 runs.
