Punjab Kings (PBKS) new Captain for IPL 2022: In the latest development, Punjab Kings (PBKS) have confirmed the appointment of batsman Mayank Agarwal as the captain of the side for the forthcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Mayank Agarwal was one of the two retained players by Punjab Kings alongside Arshdeep Singh.

The franchise retained the services of Mayank Agarwal for INR 12 Crores, while uncapped Arshdeep Singh was retained for INR 4 Crores, ahead of the Tata IPL 2022 Mega Auction.

The cricketer has expressed his delight after getting the captaincy for the IPL 2022. In the statement, shared by PBKS, Mayank Agarwal said he is extremely proud to represent PBKS in the IPL.

?I have been at Punjab Kings since 2018 and I take a lot of pride in representing this fantastic unit. I am delighted to be given the opportunity to lead the team,? Agarwal said in a press release issued by the franchise.

?I take over this responsibility with utmost sincerity, but at the same time, I believe my job would be made easier with the talent we have at the Punjab Kings squad this season.?

It must be noted that Agarwal has been the vice-captain of the team since 2018 and has also led the side in a couple of games.

?We have some vastly experienced players in our ranks, along with many talented youngsters who are keen to grab the opportunity and run with it.

?We have always taken to the field hoping to win the title and as a team we will once again work towards this goal of lifting our maiden IPL trophy. I thank the team management for entrusting me with this new role of leading the side. I look forward to the new season and the new challenges it brings with it.?

Besides captaincy, Agarwal has been a fantastic batter for Punjab Kings. The cricketer has often scored runs for the teams at a brisk pace. in his 100 IPL appearances, Agarwal has mustered 2131 runs at an impressive strike rate of 135.47. Moreover, the right-hander has smashed 11 half-centuries along with a century in the format.

Punjab Kings (PBKS) coach, Anil Kumble, has hailed the cricketer as he termed him 'hardworking, enthusiastic and a team player." He further said that Agarwal has all the attributes to lead a team and has been an integral part of the leadership group in the last two years.
