Punjab Kings: Top 3 All-Rounders to Target in TATA IPL 2023.
By Nikhil Patil Apr 24, 2023 6:06 AM IST
The Punjab Kings are genuinely missing the big match winners. The team has been awful since 2014 and has failed to qualify since that year. There needs to be either a change in management or a change in the mindset of the players. The Punjab Kings need a rejig and they need to draft some reliable players. The PBKS management also has to reconsider the appointment of Anil Kumble as the head of operations because this decision is not working for them. Mayank Agarwal was looking burdened by captaincy and it did affect his batting. The Mayank who flawlessly opens the batting wasn?t visible. Here is a look at the top 3 all-rounders the Punjab Kings can target in TATA IPL 2023:
Deepak Hooda can play for the Punjab Kings:
Deepak Hooda is one of the most reliable players in India today. His performance in the crunch situations has been elite. In the first game of the Lucknow team, when the team was rattled by Mohammed Shami in the first few overs, Deepak took the team to a decent total. Deepak ended with TATA IPL 2022 with 451 runs at a strike rate of 136. Hooda is making a serious case for himself for the middle order in the Indian national team. His added dimension is bowling right-arm off-breaks. He spins the bowl away from the left-hander.
The Punjab Kings need seasoned campaigners and Deepak is certainly one. He has played 80 games throughout his IPL career and has played for the Punjab Kings previously. With the kind of reliance he assures, the Punjab Kings can go a very long way.
Krunal Pandya can play for the Punjab Kings:
Another seasoned IPL player and once a record holder for being the highest priced uncapped player in the history of the IPL, Krunal Pandya can be an asset for the Punjab Kings. Krunal is a big match player. In the games where every other batter is struggling, Krunal flourishes with flying colors. His batting has been on the rise ever since the 2021 SMAT and the Vijay Hazare trophies. His leadership role at Baroda has helped him grow as an individual. He made his national debut in the ODI format against England in 2021 and scored a 50+ score on his debut. This speaks volumes of the confidence he has in himself.
Krunal can chip in with the bat when required but his major trait will be bowling. He will assure any captain of 4 economic overs. His added dimension is that he is a left-arm spinner and takes the ball away from the right-hander. He is electric on the field as well. A hard-working cricketer, Krunal can be an integral part of a successful campaign for the Punjab Kings.
Liam Livingstone:
Instead of looking for the top all-rounders in a pool outside, the Punjab Kings must also focus on the retention of Liam Livingstone. Liam has the option to leave if he isn?t pleased with the management but the Punjab Kings certainly don?t want him to leave as he has been their top performer. Liam is one of the top T20 players on the globe at the moment. He is the best brand ambassador of cricket. He is an inspiration as he does every possible task on the field.
Glenn Phillips is someone similar as even Phillips can bowl, bat, and keep wickets. But Liam can bowl leg-spin, off-spin can pinch-hit, and can bat up the order as well. He is a gun fielder. Liam needs no introduction further as his stats already do the talking.
