Quinton de Kock to be released from Test Captaincy after the Pakistan Series.
South Africa?s men?s head coach Mark Boucher on Wednesday said current test skipper Quinton de Kock will be released from the burden of the Test Captaincy after the series against Pakistan. However, he still refrained to make a sure comment on the decision as there is still plenty of time left following the ?disappointed? series postponement by the Cricket Australia.
South Africa after the completion of the Pakistan Test series do not have any following test series in the next nine months, as Cricket Australia cancelled the South Africa tour for three test games citing ?unacceptable health and safety risk? for the visiting contingent.
?When we get back after this tour we?ve got a bit of time before our next Test series so we can sit down and make a good, solid call on who can take over from him and release him from that burden and try and get the best out of him,? Boucher said on the eve of the final Test here.
De Kock was handed the test captaincy temporarily after Faf du Plessis stepped down from the role. The left-handed batsman after getting the new role of captain has not been in a good form, he scored mere 15 and 2 runs in the two innings of the first test against Pakistan as they suffered a seven-wicket loss.
?It is a tough time for the skipper. Especially when you are a skipper and not getting good runs off the bat,? said Boucher.
?We are not getting harsh on Quinny. Every one of us knows what a quality player he is, and the good innings will be just around the corner for him. But the extra burden on him of the long format captaincy must be tickling him and that?s probably he is not used to of.?
Cricket South Africa could not digest the postponement of the series by Australia.
CSA has slammed its Australian counterpart for the harsh and disrupts decision when the world is adapting and coming back to the route. They called it a serious financial loss for the visiting and hosts.
Cricket South Africa has assured that the result of the Australia-South Africa series postponement will not affect any of the coming schedules and they will go as per the plans of the two parties involved.
