R Ashwin explains why Rahul Dravid and management opted for a break in New Zealand tour: Former Indian cricketer and current head coach, Rahul Dravid has been amidst controversy and heavy backlash after he decided to take a break following India?s yet another forgetful outing in the T20 World Cup. Rahul Dravid and his management are not present in the ongoing India tour of New Zealand, which drew flak and the move didn?t please many of the former cricketers and experts.?

However, team India off-spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin has landed to rescue his coach, saying the support staff required a break as they worked tirelessly towards the preparation of the ICC Men?s T20 World Cup 2022.

Notably, former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri was the first one who drew everyone?s attention to the matter saying there is no need for the Indian coach to take a break as they already receive a two-three month break during the IPL.

"I will explain why Laxman has gone there with a completely different team because even that could be interpreted differently," Ashwin said on his YouTube channel. "Rahul Dravid and his team put in extensive hard work ahead of the T20 World Cup - right from planning. Since I saw this from close quarters, I'm saying this.?

"They had specific in-depth plans for each venue and each opposition. So they would have been under not only mental but also physical burnout, and everyone needed a break. As soon as the New Zealand series ends, we have the Bangladesh tour. That's why we have a different coaching staff led by Laxman for this tour."

Team India exited their T20 World Cup 2022 campaign in the second semi-final match at Adelaide Oval. The eventual champions, England defeated India by 10 wickets to end India?s run in the showpiece event.

India is currently on a tour of New Zealand for three matches T20I and as many games ODI series. The tour began on 18th November, however, no game could be possible as rain played spoilsport. The second T20I will be held on 20th November at Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui.
