Reliance, Amazon to bid for IPL media rights along with Disney: IPL 2022.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is all set to witness a massive windfall as the cricket board organise the IPL media rights auction. The big giants, Reliance Industries Ltd, Amazon.com Inc and Sony Entertainment Limited are likely to lock horns against the India unit of Sony Group Corp and Walt Disney Co to fetch the contract.
Disney bagged the media rights of the IPL in 2018 in a five years contract. Now with the agreement coming to its end, the BCCI will organise another auction to distribute the rights to telecast and live stream IPL matches for five coming years of the IPL.
More than anyone, Amazon is actively tracking the development of the IPL and has been involved in various other sports activities. But this game won?t be easy for them as they will compete against Reliance Industries and Disney.
The sources familiar with the development have informed that the total worth of the IPL media rights may exceed a record Rs 50,000 crore ($6.7 billion).

?Cricket is the second-biggest sport in the world with two-and-a-half billion fans and IPL is like its Super Bowl,? said Anton Rublievskyi, head of Parimatch, a betting company that advertised at the Indian Premier League (IPL) last year. ?If you?re not there, you do not exist.?
All the bids will be submitted to the BCCI, post which the cricket board will take its final call. The decision is likely to be rolled out at the end of March or the first week of April. The five years deal will begin from the year 2023.
Indian Premier League (IPL) crossed its 350 million viewers in the first half of the IPL 2021 itself, which alone tells how big the IPL is. The second half was even bigger than the first half as it had all the intense action of the IPL franchises to reach playoffs.
