Ricky Ponting to miss tonight?s match as family member tests covid positive: Delhi Capitals (DC) head coach Ricky Ponting is set to miss the proceedings of tonight?s fixture between Delhi Capital and Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Wankhede Stadium after one of his family members tested covid positive.?

Notably, Ricky Ponting has been isolated from the rest of the squad and won?t be travelling with the team to the stadium for today?s match against Rajasthan Royals. The development was confirmed by Delhi Capitals in a statement released earlier today.

As per the reports, the entire Delhi contingent has undergone Rapid Antigen Tests on Thursday and Friday.

It was mentioned that Ponting himself had tested negative in the Rapid Antigen Tests but it was his proximity to the family member that resulted in him getting into a short quarantine.

?Ponting himself has tested negative twice subsequently. However, in the best interest of the team, the management and medical team has decided that he will remain in isolation for five days, as he was a close contact,? the Delhi Capitals said in the statement.

?He will, therefore, not be present at the ground for tonight?s game against Rajasthan Royals. The franchise requests for Ponting and his family?s privacy to be respected in the current scenario,? it added.

It?s noteworthy that earlier, all-rounder Mitchell Marsh and wicketkeeper batter Tim Siefert along with four non-playing members of the Delhi squad had tested covid positive. Delhi Capitals confirmed that the recovery of all the members is closely monitored.

?The team looks forward to everyone?s speedy recovery.?

Despite a covid outbreak in the camp, Delhi successfully managed to hammer Punjab Kings (PBKS) convincingly in its last match a couple of days ago. DC did exceedingly well to restrict Punjab to a scanty total (115), which was chased down by the Capitals in mere 11 overs.

With the emphatic win against the Mohali based Punjab Kings, Delhi?s confidence must have taken a huge leap. The franchise returned back to the winning ways and would like to extend it by defeating the formidable Rajasthan Royals, today, in the Wankhede Stadium.
