Rishabh Pant, one of the most powerful and power-packed performers of recent times hails from the small town of Roorkee. This flamboyant and aggressive cricketer found his feet on the grounds of Delhi. Early on in his career, Rishabh traveled from Roorkee to Delhi every single day. There were days when he had to sleep at the local temples to make it in time to practice. So, what makes Rishabh so fearless and classy? Here is an in-depth look:
Rishabh Pant Hails from a Small-Town:
The small towns of India have a lot of potential. The best thing about these small-town boys is that they have strong morals. What also works in their favor is that they have nothing to lose. Indian cricket has previously seen a phenomenon called MS Dhoni, who took the cricketing world by storm. A similar case can be seen with Rishabh Pant. Also having the ?Pahadi? background, Rishabh is blessed with immense physical strength. This was said by Mr. Basu, the trainer of the Indian national team in an interview with Ranveer Alhabadia.
Rishabh Pant Played U-19 Cricket with Ishan Kishan:
Pant played U-19 National Cricket in the 2016 U-19 World Cup alongside an elite group of players. He played with Ishan Kishan, Avesh Khan, Sarfaraz Khan, Khaleel Ahmed, Mahipal Lomror, and Washi Sundar.
He scored an 18-ball 50 against Nepal which happens to be the fastest 50 in age-group cricket. His attacking nature was always seen in the domestic games. He hit an unbeaten 308 in a game against Maharashtra. He is the third-youngest to score a triple century in the Ranji Trophy. His goal in the 2016-2017 season was to become the batter to hit 50 sixes in one Ranji Trophy season. He had expressed this wish in a dialogue with SportsTak reporter Vikrant Gupta.
Rishabh Pant Debuted in England:
Rishabh was fast-tracked to the national team in 2017 in the T20I format. But he couldn?t consistently hold his position. He was then drafted to the England Tour of India in 2018. It was a dream come true for Rishabh as he hit his first ball in red-ball cricket for a six.
The true worth of this classy player was seen in the last test match of that series where India was chasing 450+ runs and he stitched a 250+ partnership with KL Rahul. Rishabh had walked in to bat at number 7. he scored his first test hundred in that innings.
Notable Innings of Pant:
So, over the past few years, Rishabh has been an integral part of the Indian Test Team. Here are a few notable performances of this maestro:
1) 114 VS England, 2018, The Oval. (Test)
2) 159* VS Australia, 2018, Sydney Cricket Ground. (Test)
3) 100* VS South Africa, 2022, Cape Town (Test)
4) 146 VS England, 2022, Birmingham (Test)
5) 125* VS England, 2022, Manchester (ODI)
6) 89* VS Australia, 2021, Gabba (Test)
7) 96 VS Sri Lanka, 2022, PCA Stadium, Mohali. (Test)
Why is Rishabh one of the Greatest Entertainers?
Test cricket is currently dying. It is a format that was losing the audience. The ICC took several steps to protect the format and this is exactly what was needed. But the players also need to entertain to get the audience back. One such character in recent times is Rishabh Pant. Pant has a very simple approach. Either punish or perish. He doesn?t waste the audience?s time. He will either walk in blast 50 runs of 30 balls or will get out within 4 to 5 balls.
Also, when he bats, he bats with real dominance. When Rishabh is on the field, he makes the rules. And when he is on the song, he will make the bowlers, dance to his tunes. Furthermore, when he is behind the stumps, it?s a fun fest for the ones who understand Hindi. He keeps the moments light. All in all, Rishabh is a true enjoyer of the gentlemen?s game.
